Eww white uniforms??

Published

So, I just found out that we will be wearing white uniforms next semester....white scrubs to be exact. Anyone else have to wear white? Normally I wouldn't mind, but I am the type of person that spills something on themselves everytime they wear white. In fact, last time I wore white pants (5+ years ago) I just happened to sit on a chocolate cupcake. No joke.

I guess I will just have to buy like 5 pairs incase I get some sort of lethal permanent cupcake stain.

I like white! Just not ALL white. Anyone have anything worse to make me feel better?

I am a little bit late to this discussion but i simply have to show you my 'lovely' uniform. We arent allowed trousers and tunic tops or scrubs, instead we get to wear white dresses with purple belts and shoulder tabs.

We start our placements on monday (tomorrow eeekk!!!) So i shall have to see how they wash after being worn but im not holding out much hope that they will look presentable after the first couple of months. I think white is a silly colour as it shows the stains and its so incredibly hard to keep clean. Not to mention visible underwear etc

you win!

Wow, I'm so sorry for that dress. I do have to wear white scrubs(pants etc.), but thank god that they are not as bad as that. I'm so sorry. Hopefully nursing school will go by fast.

So, do the male students have to shave their legs so the hair doesn't show through their hose?? :D

As stated above, you win with that dress. WOW.

A few tips with the whites - I'll be passing my lovely whites on to a friend in about 2 weeks. :nurse:

1. Always wear undergarments that match your skin - flesh, buff, mocha, tan, black.

2. Automatic dish detergent - i.e. cascade - will take almost any set in stain out of white (it bleaches but my multicolor patches have always been ok) and does very well with coffee.

3. Ink is removable prior to heat drying the garment - rubbing alcohol works! - use an alcohol swab during the shift or if, like me, you wash a few pens in with your whites, buy a few gallons and soak overnight.

Good luck all!

4. White vinegar and ammonia are great for perspiration stains.

When in whites in a hospital, be prepared to be asked where anything/everything is by lost looking people. They just assume because you're in white, that means you'll know. Especially if you are a group of people in white scrubs or lab coats.

We had to wear white uniforms until I got it changed through our student organization. I don't miss whites one bit and I don't think you were disrespecting me for saying you don't want to wear white. It is a very impractical color for nursing. At my hospital we went to standardized uniforms, licensed personel can wear navy or white. Take a guess how many wear white. I have not seen anyone in white yet. My mom had to wear white, but times are a changin.

ok after seeing that I don't feel so badly now :chuckle

Navy blue for the belt and shoulder tabs might be ok but where on earth did they get purple?

I think an all white dress would be fine. Thanks for sharing! :D

I think they make us wear white because almost none of the licensed staff will :lol2:

If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, their laundry soap in the green box has color-safe oxygen bleach and does a very nice job of keeping whites white.

Also - wash your whites separately. Almost all my other clothes are black, so my whites end up with millions of black lint threads if I don't.

I'm really interested in what color my scrubs will be. I think they are going to be white so I need to buy a lot of tan/ nude underwear this summer. :lol2:

I know, its hideous, i mean purple????I think some store got stuck with a load of purple bits and my uni being tight with money got them cheap because no one else would buy them or wear them. The staff nurses think its hilarious

We have to wear white scrubs, but over that this U-G-L-Y dark blue apron/smock that makes you think the last thing we are is nurses. In one of the hospitals I did my clinicals in, the RNs all have to wear white scrubs only. I don't mind, it's actually easier since you can use bleach on the scrubs after exposure to who knows what. But the dark blue apron is where I draw the line at!!

luckily we have navy blue scrubs, thank goodness! but ive seen other nursing students in white on our floor, i always feel so bad for them.. actually i think they are kinda cute but what a pain in the butt! :o
