Eww white uniforms??

So, I just found out that we will be wearing white uniforms next semester....white scrubs to be exact. Anyone else have to wear white? Normally I wouldn't mind, but I am the type of person that spills something on themselves everytime they wear white. In fact, last time I wore white pants (5+ years ago) I just happened to sit on a chocolate cupcake. No joke.

I guess I will just have to buy like 5 pairs incase I get some sort of lethal permanent cupcake stain.

I like white! Just not ALL white. Anyone have anything worse to make me feel better?

In an earlier post here I said that I didn't feel much like a nurse in my all white uniform with the teal trim. I felt more like an orderly.

But for graduation we are expected to wear all white and the students usually go with white dresses because we have to wear the nurses cap. That I don't mind. In fact I look forward to wearing the white dress with the nurses cap. I will feel like a real nurse then :)

I just want to update everyone. I graduated in January '08 and dressed in my white nurses dress with the white nurses cap and white shoes. I've never felt prouder to be dressed in all whites!

I'm graduating in August and we are wearing white dresses with the hats and shoes, I'm soo exicted and I know I will be so proud.

Do you have a pic to share with us? I would love to see how you all looked. :):nurse:

I have white bottoms with a blue top. Thankfully we get to pick our scrub bottoms...whilst it doesn't help to find one that is thick enough to not see thru, I can at least get ones that aren't so baggy I feel like I'm wearing Hefty Sinchsaks (sp?) on my legs. :chuckle

Anyhow, I think a white top with darker bottoms would be better. I had to go out and buy a bunch of nude undergarments as none of my undies would have been "appropriate". :uhoh3: I'm a huge stickler for not wanting to see someone's "business!" And no I don't want to know what your s/o got you for Xmas. :barf01:

Ha! That reminds me of when I was training for CNA me and another student were following around one gal that was standing facing the nurses station and we were behind her while she was talking. she (without thinking) put her hands on her hips and raised her scrub top way up to her pant waist. She was wearing white scrub pants and exposed the fact that she was wearing a white thong! My partner and I just smiled to ourselves! :chuckle

I have no problem with white... at my school we wear royal blue. Everyone complains about the colour and style. I think that will happen with any standardized uniform. As far as I'm concerned I'm wearing my uniform for practicality and comfort, not style. We can all be as stylish as we want when we get home

Ours are white, but last semester they changed it to a scrub style from the button top and pants for girls and the zip-up top and white pants for guys. If I wasn't a poor nursing student (and wouldn't be graduating in less than a year) I'd go buy the new style myself. It doesn't make you stand out as bad on the floor and for the guys you don't look like one of the men in white coming to take someone away anymore:D

just make sure you wear dark undies :)

I am a little bit late to this discussion but i simply have to show you my 'lovely' uniform. We arent allowed trousers and tunic tops or scrubs, instead we get to wear white dresses with purple belts and shoulder tabs.

We start our placements on monday (tomorrow eeekk!!!) So i shall have to see how they wash after being worn but im not holding out much hope that they will look presentable after the first couple of months. I think white is a silly colour as it shows the stains and its so incredibly hard to keep clean. Not to mention visible underwear etc

That is just adorable. You are making me love my Smurf blue uniscrub top and pants ever so much more. I just wish our clinical instructor didn't make us wear the white lab coats on top; they are bulky and make you hot after you start running around doing tasks.

The only good thing about our uniform is that we get to wear black shoes-I was dreading being made to wear white shoes as ive got 'odd' feet and finding shoes is a nightmare. But the university are planning to change the uniform in the next 1-2 years mainly because the hospital are slow providing our uniforms and people in my class still dont have uniforms and we start tomorrow! Im so thankful im bigger than some as they had 4 dresses in my size so ive got 4 :chuckle

This is how I launder whites:

Spray-on SHout to any stain as soon as I take the stuff off.

Load the washer with whites in cold water. 1/2 cup of original Cascade, Tide, 1/2 cup of bleach, a couple of drops of bluing mixed into water before I pour them in. Agitate and then let sit for an hour. Finish the cycle, let the washer drain, and do it before the rinse in HOT water. Then rinse. If you have a line and it's a sunny day hang them out to bleach in the sun.

It's a PITA but the whites do NOT yellow, they are beautifully bright, and for one load a week it's worth the trouble.
