I too think it is no big deal. I have never wanted to hop in bed with any of my patients.....no way!!!!!

They try to find the loudest, most obnoxious contestants that they can. I used to watch it all the time but don't anymore, much.

I too kinda wish that the whole "naughty nurse" stereotype would just go away. I don't worry or fret too much over it, though.

LOL, this is nothing to be upset over. TV depicts Dr.'s as sluts who have time to sleep with each other in on call rooms (ER, Grey's), detectives as bad-**ses who break the law to bring in justice(any of the Law & Order shows), and men as idiots (see most sitcoms). It is called Entertainment. They are using naughty nurses to get more male viewers. The same reason they use gorgeous models in all the other episodes.

***I like the naughty nurse fantasy my husband has. He gets so hot when he sees me in my scrubs!!! (and I'm not even a real nurse yet).

Lighten up, enjoy life more, worry about the little things less. :onbch:

I think it's funny. I mean really who does it hurt? It is just a stupid game show.

If I could only look as cute as that nurse, I'd be a naughty nurse, too.

Sorry, I find this offensive. I think the idea of the sexpot, bimbo dumb nurse just perpetuates the stereotype that nurses are idiots, capable of only following the orders of the big, smart MD. And if we are really lucky, maybe we can bag one of those docs for our very own! Seriously, if we want to be respected as a profession, than we have to demand that respect. Until that time comes, nurses will continue to be treated as garbage. We will continue to be overworked and understaffed unless we, as a profession and at work, speak up and demand the respect we deserve! We have to stop being so complacent, saying, oh it was all in fun. Any behavior that depicts one group of people as being dumb, sex-starved imbeciles is offensive!

I have no issues with it. Do you think people were watching that and said to themselves, "now that I've seen this I believe nurses are sluts and I don't think as highly of them as I used too." I don't think so. There's a better chance that they walked away and thought, "nurses dont listen to their mothers and are greedy." :D Had to watch the show to understand the last part.

LOL! Perfect observation! :chuckle

I am very glad to see that someone agrees with me.

They way I see it, if we want to advance as a profession and if we want to be seen as more than the doctor's handmaiden, we have to fight back against being portrayed as bimbos.

Overall, I don't think nurses are portrayed as bimbos. I understand what your saying, but I believe the overall concensus of most is that nurses are Life Saving Super Heroes!!! Maybe I'm a bit partial though. J/k but really, when you tell somebody your a nurse what is their first reaction? Almost always you can tell not just by what they say but also by their expression that they are impressed........and its not because they think your a bimbo.

Specializes in ER.

Either some of you are offended easily or need more things to worry about. Like I said before, it's a frickin' TV show, a game show even. What's the big deal?

I'm pretty sure the general public doesn't go around thinking that nurses are nothing but sex loving bimbos. Every job has it's stereotype. County workers are lazy and leaning on shovels, cops are fat and eat donuts, farmers are dumb hicks, etc etc etc........ Just let it go, all the extra stress will kill you at a young age.

If you don't mind, that's certainly your prerogative but please don't tell others what should and should not be important to them. Try to have a little respect for others who may not feel as you do. Thanks.

I completely agree with you. I think the show in its entirety was a blow to the image of nursing (and not just the sexy nurse get-ups).

Of course, it is easier to just brush it off and say "it's all jest, people don't think that way." I don't honestly believe the network thought there was any real harm, but that doesn't matter.

If you are a practicing nurse on this earth, you have at some point experienced someone's ignorant stereotyping of you as a nurse. The average person has no idea the extent of what we do and the critical thinking that is involved. Heck, our regular patients sometimes don't even get it.

All I'm asking for is more realistic images of nursing be put out to the public. I think it would make even our daily work easier in the long run. Never underestimate the power of these consistent negative images of nursing, no matter how subtle they may be. They all add up!
