I found it more offensive to our profession that he turned away over 400,000 dolllars, and ended up with a buck! LOL I kept thinking "you're smart- you're a nurse... TAKE THE MONEY!!!

Laura RN:nurse:

Now doesn't this attract more males to the professions? Attaching more female imagery to nursing. Rather negative imagery at that. To any who say it's no big deal, take a look at where you are today. We do get recognition today, but it didn't just happen by accident

Either some of you are offended easily or need more things to worry about. Like I said before, it's a frickin' TV show, a game show even. What's the big deal?

I'm pretty sure the general public doesn't go around thinking that nurses are nothing but sex loving bimbos. Every job has it's stereotype. County workers are lazy and leaning on shovels, cops are fat and eat donuts, farmers are dumb hicks, etc etc etc........ Just let it go, all the extra stress will kill you at a young age.

Sorry. I have worked too hard to become an educated professional to allow this stereotype to not be a "big deal". Having had men try to look down my top (the reason I wear a shirt under my scrub top) and think it is okay to pat my behind, I DO take offense at anything that will propagate the illusion that this behavior is acceptable. While you may not have experience this type of harassment, many women have. Stereotyping, be it nurses, fat cops or any other, are just wrong. We advocate for our patients, shouldn't we advocate for ourselves? Just my :twocents:

If you are a practicing nurse on this earth, you have at some point experienced someone's ignorant stereotyping of you as a nurse. The average person has no idea the extent of what we do and the critical thinking that is involved. Heck, our regular patients sometimes don't even get it.

I went in to discharge a patient, her boyfriend started to ask me a question about her chronic abd pain. She interupted him with "don't ask her, she's just the nurse". I stood up straight, looked her straight in the eye and said "I'm not just a nurse, I am a highly educated health care professional". Then went on to answer his question. She had the grace to be embarressed.

Yeah, I resent the bimbo representation of my profession. Remember the old adage "give a dog and bad name, and shoot it. No one will care."

With you being a man, I'm sure you haven't had a pervy old man grab your breasts while demanding a "sponge bath" or demand you hold his member while he "uses the urinal". Forgive me but after enduring that sort of degrading nonsense, I'm not wanting to be associated with a stereotype that would perform those services for pervy guys like him.

No matter what job you have there are stereotypes. For awhile I was a used car salesman, we all know what people think of them, and it didn't bother me. I know what kind of person I am. I know what my values are. I am confident in ME. That is all that should matter. Not what a nut job like Howie Mandel or the wierd people that enjoy that stupid ass show think. I don't think people were looking down you shirt because they seen a naughty nurse on TV. Some people are just perverts. If you don't think female pt's step over lines than you are mistaken. I'm just saying that there are real issues in the world and something that is fake and on TV shouldn't get people so worked up.

I really don't care.

my bf had the sexy nurse idea too.. until he got used to me coming home, exhausted, asking him not to touch me until i showered and told him stories of the blood, guts, puke, pee and poo of the day...

i destroyed that fantasy fast! haha

I gotta say, if the show depicted a bunch of male nurses and portrayed them all as gay, maybe you would feel different. (Maybe you wouldn't). I am sure, however, that there would be a public outcry and that image! Just goes to show that no matter how equal you may think you are, men and women continue to be treated differently, even in the same profession.

I watched the show in an ER waiting area, and I don't even like the show. But... didn't think much about it. It just a show. There are so many more things in todays world to get in an uproar about, a game show isn't high on my list. I think it was all in fun, I don't think there are too many people in this wourld that watch that and then think........wow that's what nurses are like! If one happens to think that, they need more help than policing game shows, passing more laws to muddle up an already muddled , red tape ladened world can do.

SharonH- This is a forum for people to post their opinions. I have stated mine. I have not called anyone a name, I have not told anyone their opinion is invalid. I stated my opinion. I'm really not seeing where I said anything that was offensive, but please let me know what offended you so, I really meant no harm.

Still wouldn't care. A lot more important things to worry about and like I said, other people's opinions of me don't really bother me.
