Let me think. I know offhand six nurses that have banged married docs that they work with. I see thongs sticking out of scrubs. There are T-shirts painted on that don't meet the scrub bottoms. When I go to conferences, the docs are ALL in suits, but a good portion of the nurses are in jeans and flip-flops. Yeah, nursing's image problem is Howie Mandel's fault.

I believe there are a few simplistic responses here. First-Do I believe this single episode will directly cause a person to think, "nurses are silly sexpots"? No. But as I've said in a previous post, all these historical images and outdated conceptions of nursing add up.

Second-certainly I have many more important things to worry about in life. Does this mean this topic matter should not have any importance? No. We are capable of caring about and actively responding to many things in life. We can multi-task...we are nurses afterall.

Absolutely agree. It's not one episode of Deal or No Deal. Just like it's not one episode of House or Grey's or ER or Scrubs. And it's not one silly commercial. But add them all up, and those little images and visuals are in the public's mind.

And yep, I can worry about that right along with worrying about paying my mortgage and peace in the Middle East.:)

I missed that one, was their costumes what upset you?

With you being a man, I'm sure you haven't had a pervy old man grab your breasts while demanding a "sponge bath" or demand you hold his member while he "uses the urinal". Forgive me but after enduring that sort of degrading nonsense, I'm not wanting to be associated with a stereotype that would perform those services for pervy guys like him.

I can't believe you have had to endure things like this in the nursing profession, my hats off to you professionals!

I don't know where YOU work, but I can tell you I've never seen behavior like that from my colleagues. I've never heard ONCE about affairs with MD's, either. I've gotten hit on by a doc or two and blew him off, but that's the extent of it.

Getting upset about how we are portrayed doesn't mean we don't have "bigger things to worry about." Give me a break. I worked hard for my degree, and my license, and I work my @ss off every time I punch that clock. To perpetuate the image of nurses as whores is highly offensive to me, and I have plenty of other things to be concerned with. That doesn't make THIS okay.

I wouldn't expect a male nurse to understand why this is a problem, though.
