Curious to know why Jahi thread was closed?

Nurses Headlines

Published

I tried to post on the previous thread about Jahi Mcmath and found it closed. Here is the latest news article.

Jahi McMath: New tests may not be enough to declare her alive, experts say - San Jose Mercury News

Are you referring to the case of Terri Schindler Schiavo, the patient who died in 2005 after tube feedings and enteral fluids were stopped?

Yes, that would be the one. :)

I do find it interesting that her body isn't decaying in the way brain dead patients generally do, even with life support. She definitely does seem to be a case for the books.

There is very little research on brain dead children kept on full somatic support for nearly a year. The 4 year old who suffered brain death after HiB meningitis (not diagnosed as at the time there was no criteria to determine brain death in minors under age 18. No HiB vaccine at the time). His mom took him home on a vent & trach. He passed at age 20. Suffered multiple complications and invasive procedures (including suturing his eyelids shut in early teens as they were drying out & sunken so bad regular application of drops/ointments was no longer effective.) until his mom finally conceded to no CPR around age 20. She permitted a cranial autopsy. What was left of his brain was an unidentifiable calcified mass in the base of his skill. No identifiable structures. There is a link in the second thread to the published journal article.

JustBeachyNurse, I am trying to find the link to the article about the 4 year old that died at age 20 and have googled for it but no luck yet (I will keep trying tho). If you have it handy would you please re-share it? Thank you.

I just started reading the threads and I don't even know what to say other than wow.. That poor girl. And the other kids. And the people footing the bill... I could go on.

Can someone explain though who is the "hairdresser" and how does he/she play a part? I read through most of one of the later threads but only saw comments on this person. Just curious about who else is playing a part in this tragedy.

Allyson Scerri is a former hairdresser who now runs a "facility" which expressed interest in caring for Jahi McMath. Whether or not she was ever in fact moved there, I'm not sure. But Ms. Scerri had plenty of public comment, for a non-clinician not involved in her case.

Here's one:

Another poster responded by cruelly attacking and mocking Jahi's family and related this case to allegations of racial bias toward Thomas Duncan in Dallas calling it reverse racism.

That was me and I see nothing wrong with what I said. I wasn't the one that brought race up in the first place.

On, and way to go for sneaking it into this new thread, you just couldn't let it go. You and the other posters who just had to tell the OP why they thought the thread was closed. Especially since, in your own words, it had no bearing on the discussion.

Lets stick to topic please. The other thread was closed as there was no further news at the time. This thread opened when new news became available.

Well, Prop 46 is a no go, so I wonder what Dolan's next move will be. http://www.latimes.com/local/political/la-me-pc-prop-46-results-20141104-story.html

Not that I believe in fairy tales, but I'd like to think we could bring this circus to an end finally. (And hope Dolan never ends up on some ill conceived reality show) :what:

I think it's funny when things don't go their way the family & lawyer go quiet for awhile.

I was wondering when someone would start screaming racism. Why is it that when nothing else gets (or continues to get) attention in a case like this, someone yells racism? I am a woman of color, and I don't feel one tiny iota of racism in this case. I do see grave injustices bordering on criminally insane behavior though on SO many levels!

Keeping that poor girl on life support until every last cell in her body dies is an injustice. Actually injustice is too mile a term, that little girl deserves to rest in peace!

Allowing her siblings to be moved to the back burner and be both neglected and emotionally scarred in the process is an injustice. I don't understand why social services haven't come to take them yet (or perhaps they have).

Bleeding the public out of well over $60k on gofundme, then popping up online with pictures of Michael Kors purses a week or so later is just plain criminal!

Forcing nurses and ancillary personnel to care for a dead girl is just plain insane!

According to every relatively recent article, Jahi was in a hospital in NJ until a month or two ago. If the bogus claims by Mama Nails and Dolan were true, wouldn't the family have convinced a medical professional who had first hand knowledge of the situation to come forward? If there was an MRI showing normal brain tissue, where is the radilolgist AT THE FACILITY who read it? if there was activity on an EEG, where is the neurologist who read that? And if there was actual cognizant movement wouldn't a medical professional been called into the room to confirm? Where is the bedside exam? They are producing so called "experts" who never saw the girl in person. One of them is a Dr. at some bogus rain trust accused of raping a teenaged pvs patient he was caring for. Also, if she is maintaining so well on her own, why does every photo show her under a pile of blankets? As for her skin integrity, these photos could have been taken a year ago right after death, there is no verification that they are recent anywhere!

Race doesn't matter! What matters is that this family is getting it's 15 minutes of fame by desecrating the body of a 14 year old girl and managing to do it so well that people all over the country are paying to watch the freak show. Now they want her declared alive to get health benefits because they can't afford to keep her on organ support on their own.

It will be a year on December 12. I have cared for people in PVS who lived 20 years (if you call it living) It's not what I want for myself and I hope I would be strong enough to follow the wishes of my loved ones and let them go but who knows what any of us would do in that situation?
