I tried to post on the previous thread about Jahi Mcmath and found it closed. Here is the latest news article.

DeFina. & IBRF has a new fundraiser posted (not encouraging bad behavior so I'm my posting the link) asking for $500,000 to sustain her life with the (unproven, overpriced) "treatment" offered by IBRF. They have $100 and a lot of comments. Guess gofundme no longer working.

ktwlpn, she is dead! Three board certified highly qualified neurologists who actually examined her put her through all of the tests mandated by law and then some and declared her dead.

how do we know how decomposed she is? There is no PROOF anywhere that any of the photos that are being shown are recent. They could be a year old for all any of us know. think about it--she was in a hospital until a month or two ago, if ANY of the so called proof the family is trying to pawn off on the public was real, why wouldn't they have medical professionals standing up for them and verifying their stories? If she was in pvs, why was there no physician saying so? The hospitals have been totally quiet because of hipaa, but if there was a shred of evidence to support these people, they would have asked the hospital to speak up. We are still talking about it a year later because we are so stunned by the lengths this family will go to defraud the public. Michael Kors is the only beneficiary in any of this, not poor dead Jahi.

The rate of decomposition is slowed by environmental factors and the fact that she is ventilated, "fed" and hydrated. There are signs of decomposition in her fingers. & toes in the photos posted. She seems to not have adequate intrinsic temperature regulation. Her MRI is a mess no sign of brain stem or pituitary , many areas of tissue replaced by CSF. The globes of her eyes are not obvious on the scans shown. No spontaneous respiration effort.

No respiratory effort in the absence of a cervical spine injury and failed apnea tests = brain dead.

No visible brain stem structures on MRI = likely brain dead

Failing bedside clinical brain death examination at least three times in a 2.5 week period = brain death

There has been at least one example of a brain dead child maintained on somatic support for two decades.

Don't forget corneal reflex. She failed the corneal reflex test last year as well.

That's part of the clinical brain death assessment including specific reflex testing including corneal.

It's been more than a month since the family or their lawyer has made a sound. I wonder why the silence ?? Has she been laid to rest or moved. I don't think they have the backing to fund her care any more.

Probably because Dolan was trying to remove the $250K malpractice cap. But it didn't happen so they are probably figuring out their next move.

Also, an attorney that was court appointed to examine her last year and determined she was dead made a statement that poked holes in everything that Dolan listed as supposed proof of her being alive and the statement was compelling enough that Dolan knew he would never win the case so he withdrew the petition. I think it pretty much left the family with nothing to say. However I don't think that she has been laid to rest yet, their FB page had a post on Thanksgiving that said they are thankful she is still here.

Wow this is sad when I was a younger Nurse I would have said pull her off the vent but now that I have almost 19 years of Nursing and it has not been the best. I know that the family is holding on to hope.

She would be showing more signs of decomp IF she wasn't trached & on a vent. If she wasn't being given "nutrition" and hydration via GT. IF she wasn't turned & repositioned frequently. But she is trached/vented, GT hydration & nutrition and repositioned all which slow the decomposition process timeline.

All of this is true, and in addition, we have no idea what the level of decomposition is because there has been no verification that the pictures the family are posting are recent.

I cannot even believe that a forum dedicated to nursing professionals has a thread in which people argue about what "DEAD" means.

Folks.....the girl is dead. No brain. Declared dead. The fact that the rest of her young (otherwise healthy) organs have not completed shut-down yet is not an indication of LIFE. She WILL eventually decompensate, she will eventually succumb to any number of pitfalls that those who are....well... DEAD but kept artificially oxygenated/hydrated....will succumb to.

Sad doesn't BEGIN to cover this debacle.
