C's on all my Anatomy and Physiology classes.

Published

Hi! I'm currently out of school but I'm thinking of going back next year into nursing school. I have taken all the pre-reqs for nursing. My main worry is that I got C's in all of my science classes except for Microbiology and my GPA is only 3.2. I have A's and B's for my other classes, science is my only weakness (How ironic? right?).

I want to try to get into any nursing school here in La, but having C's in my major classes worries me a lot. My credits are also from another state so this as well discourages me to get into any nursing schools. :(

Did anybody here have C's in their science classes but still managed to get into the nursing program?

Thank you!

Professional Nursing is a science-based occupation. Human anatomy & physiology is the basis for everything we do. So -- your success in these pre-requisites is a primary factor for nursing school admission. A&P is not a one-shot deal; you will have to draw upon this knowledge in order to be successful in your subsequent nursing classes. My advice? Re-take A&P.

I got a C in A & P I and an A in A & P II. I took A & P I in a Maymester. Not recommended. But I did get in the program, even with that C.

I got a C in A & P I and I got a B in A & P II. If your school goes by a point system in order to get into the program C's will not cut it. Re-taking a class that you "passed" can be quite costly - most schools will make you pay out of state tuition in order to re-take. You could consider doing well in all of your other classes and rocking out your HESI. If not re-taking this class I would suggest that you self study with your A & P that you received a C in. A & P is in everything you do from here on out and into your career. Study hard and a good book is A & P the easy way. Great book for studying.

Hope this helps!!

I think you're more the exception then the rule. A "C" is a 2.0 on the gpa scale, and with it being a required science it would put most applicants and a mortal disadvantage.

My advice is retake the class, especially if you're at a competitve school, because you don't wan't to run into rejection letter after rejection letter while racking up debt like a lot of my fellow classmates are doing (One girl in my micro was taking the class for the third time........seriously?) So moral of the story: you made a boo boo, relfect on your study habits and see where you could improve and make sure it doesnt happen again. If you thought a&p was hard, its laughably easy compared to nursing school

Well I would like to start by saying that I got C's in all of my science prereqs as well, not because I'm not smart but because I didn't have good study habits and I didn't put in enough effort. With that being said I still got into a nursing program the first time I applied and made it onto the waiting list of another. I just finished my first semester of nursing school yesterday and let me tell you I love it and I put in the effort to get awesome grades. I am walking away with 4 A's and 1 A-...this means I have a 3.9 gpa in nursing school. So no it is not impossible to get into a program and you may not have to retake classes to get in, but if you don't get in I would suggest that. But there is still hope! I wish you the best of luck! Nursing school is hard but completely worth it.

I think it may depend on the school and how they do there admissions. If I were you I would go and speak to the nursing advisor for your program. It will help you figure out mathamatically where you stand if it is a point system. Good luck!

I would investigate the programs that you are interested in to find out what their polices are and how they apply to your situation. Perhaps retaking the courses is an option. If so, you better get your act together. I've seen people in my courses going for a C (or worse) the second time around and that ain't pretty. Good luck.

Have you talked to an advisor at the school you are planning to attend? I honestly think it depends on how competitive it is to get into the program at that school. Where I live, they quit taking out of state applicants to help improve the chances for in state students to make it into the program. This helped, but it's still very competitive.

Honestly, I would talk with your school. I got in with a 3.0GPA. And I know I'm prob going to get bashed for this, but there is so much in A&P that you aren't going to use. As a nurse on the floor, you aren't going to be looking at slides and deciding which one is bladder and which one is liver. I have a 'C' in A&PI and I've been fine, actually going better than most of the people in my nursing class.

Congratulations on getting into nursing program! I'm from Va too and finished all my pre-reqs at NVCC, but just moved to Ca. Can I ask what school did you get accepted to? I was trying to get to GMU for their Nursing program. :)

I want to retake my A&P classes, but not sure if it's going to look good in my transcript.
