C's on all my Anatomy and Physiology classes.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi! I'm currently out of school but I'm thinking of going back next year into nursing school. I have taken all the pre-reqs for nursing. My main worry is that I got C's in all of my science classes except for Microbiology and my GPA is only 3.2. I have A's and B's for my other classes, science is my only weakness (How ironic? right?).

I want to try to get into any nursing school here in La, but having C's in my major classes worries me a lot. My credits are also from another state so this as well discourages me to get into any nursing schools. :(

Did anybody here have C's in their science classes but still managed to get into the nursing program?

Thank you!

Thanks guys for replying to this post, I think I'm just going to retake my A&Ps and this time I'm sure I'll have all my stuff put together. Hopefully!!

Congratulations on getting into nursing program! I'm from Va too and finished all my pre-reqs at NVCC but just moved to Ca. Can I ask what school did you get accepted to? I was trying to get to GMU for their Nursing program. :)[/quote']

Thank you! I go to Riverside School of Health Careers :)

My Community College does not look at transcripts for W or repeat classes. It is ALL about the points. I'm in Southern California. I think redoing your sciences is a smart choice. Good luck!

Hey what program did you get into i need a place to go myself, even though i didn't even take my pre-reqs yet

The program I am in sets the bar at 2.0. So it would not mean death for you. I met a young woman at orientation that took Micro three times and she is in, said she only passed micro with a C. Some people stress that nursing is so competitive. While I did make good grades to make sure I had a fighting chance, my program does not give instant death to those who have lower grades.

You mentioned you are in CA, if you are applying to schools out here be sure to check the program's requirements because I have seen a lot of schools that will not accept re-take grades/only look at the first time you took the class OR you lose points for repeats/withdrawals.

I'm not into any program yet but I have my AS degree in Gen Studies and that includes all my pre-reqs.

Some schools in the LA area want at least a 2.5 gpa in the sciences and if you meet that, they'll throw you into a lottery to get randomly admitted. So it may happen for you. Look at each and every school in the area to see what you qualify for (go to the CA BRN site for a list of approved schools). But i would seriously suggest you retake those classes and get As. Even if they end up averaging the two grades, a B is still better than a C. Plus, you need a pretty solid foundation of A&P to make sense of the nursing school pathophys and how drugs work. I know that's not really your worry right now, but you don't have time later to relearn basic A&P. Just my two cents.

Thanks for this! I'm thinking of retaking my A&Ps because it's kind of been awhile since the last time I took that class.

I could not agree more willowita!

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Are there any schools in your area that work off of a lottery system? As long as you qualify, you have an equal chance with all of the other candidates. That might be a good route for you.

Probably in the past, but since getting into the nursing program is much competitive now these days, your chances of getting in with those grades are very slim. Just trying to be honest.
