Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

I had an 8th grade asthmatic (and known malingerer) come to me breathing kind of fast "I can't catch my breath. You can call my mom but I don't know what she can do for me." Clear breath sounds, O2 sat 99%, great color if a little pink if the cheeks. I ask her what she just did "I just ran a mile in PE". I gave her a glass of water and she immediately started a casual conversation with me. As soon as she finished her water I sent her out.

My husband said I was mean when I told him that story but dear god if I don't get her out quick she'll stick around forever.

Just got a call from grandma-they did a root canal and his abscessed molar...C'Mon now

This poor kid! I'm glad parents were out of town...it's likely they would've told him to suck it up. Now I will say, if I call on a FF who I know is not actually sick and the parent tells me to tell them to suck it up, shake it off, etc. I will while still on the phone "Bud, dad said suck it up!" but this kid, ugh. That's awful.

Why on earth are kids allowed in almost an hour before school starts! Yuck! Ours aren't let in until 20 minutes prior to the bell. Lord, I can only imagine how full my office would be if they were allowed in that early.

I am at a middle school. We have morning tutoring and teachers send them in or they just walk in front door and make a beeline to me!!

2nd grade FF: "I have the worst headache of my whole entire life"

Me: When did it start?

2nd: 1 minute ago in gym

Me: something that hurts for 1 minute is not a good reason to see the nurse, get a drink, gym is over, it's time for dismissal.

C'Mon Now! worst headache of your life?! you've only been alive for 7 years, so I guess you don't have much for comparison...

Saw spleeny kid earlier in the day with a stomach ache. I gave him the standard "There is not a whole lot I can do for stomach pain" spiel after benign exam. Offer kid Tums if he thinks that might help. Kid took Tums and went back to class. Spleeny kid returned 20 minutes before dismissal stating his stomach never got any better and could I call dad to come get him. Um, no. "Well... could you just call my dad?" Um, no. Your dad will get caught up in the buses and won't even get here until after your bus has left. Played this back and forth a few times and he finally said, "Well, I guess I'll go back to class then."

I don't see this kid very often, but geez. The last time I saw him was because he stood up in class, took a step and "wrenched his knee horribly." A wheelchair ride to the nurse's office, call to dad to come get him, hospital visit because he COULD. NOT. WALK. ON. IT. AT. ALL. Turns out to be a mildly sprained knee and he was back in school the next day sans crutches. I am perfectly polite and professional when dealing with this kid, but in my head I am thinking !

These are the worst ones because you JUST DON'T KNOW!! I've sent out plenty of kids because they claimed they couldn't walk and turned out to be nothing. I had a kid that I was debating about having mom come get and get checked out but my gut told me he was exaggerating... Sure enough as soon as (he thought) he was out of my line of vision, his limp cleared up and he RAN DOWN THE FREAKING HALL. Geesh.

But on the flip side, I had a kid who I couldn't figure out. He seemed fine until I would ask him to move his arm (he fell on his shoulder in PE) and then he claimed excruciating pain. I went with my gut and had dad come get him... Broken clavicle.

I am constantly observing my FF after a status dramaticus so I don't miss it. I do not want the parent to be upset with me because I missed something after I see their child lying to me 100 times this year and now I have to find the real deal.

This happened recently with my FF from yesterday (the one who caused the entire 4th grade class to puke). It was on a day that I wasn't on campus and he complained of a stomach ache (his go to move) and the teacher told him to rest for minute and he'd be fine. Apparently when he got home he was running fever and ended up being diagnosed with the flu....mom wasn't very happy as you could imagine. His mom even call him "The boy who cried wolf" :cautious: but was still upset because he was clearly sick THIS time. But I guess we're just damned if we do damned if we don't with our FFs...

"He has a runny nose"

Well so do I but here I sit. I really wanted to write, "we don't send kids with runny noses home!"

C'mon now

Student comes straight from bus to the clinic. Says he doesn't feel well, has been up all night vomiting and with diarrhea. He has 2 tests today, so mom thought he should come to take the tests. C'Mon now!!! :banghead:

Two students walk into the clinic, 8:30am:

Student #1: My teacher asked me to walk down with him (pointing at the other student) so I could tell you my teacher thinks there has to be something wrong because he keeps sleeping in class.

Me:

I should add, I did do an assessment on him, just to be sure we didn't have a little something, something going on, but alas, that assessment found everything to be completely normal and the sleepiness was the direct result of a late night of video games.
