A girl I worked with as a CNA got into nursing school and due to having severe panic attacks she dropped at about the third week. I'm giving you this back story because I start nursing school in about a month. Said coworker is nice enough to give me tips (although anything past the third week is just hearsay) and every time she talks to me she says get a study group early so you have enough people to cheat off of "cuz girl you will need to cheat"
Is this true? I've made it this far without cheating/having the easy profs and done just fine. I know she's trying to help but now I think her advice is no longer helping me. What are your experiences with students "sharing" info??

Don't take her warning about cheating seriously. If you find that you don't need to cheat now, you won't need to start cheating in nursing school. It is as simple as that.

Um. What? Please tell me none of those coworkers will be my nurse. Cheating just solidifies a lack of knowledge of the material. Just wow.

Seriously?? Would you want your loved one being taken care of by the nurse who cheated her way thru nursing school? This girl is only cheating herself, and I could only imagine what kind of nurse she would have made. Study, work hard and stay determined=no need for cheating.

Good day, stunurse2015:
Food for thought... It is possible the person telling you to cheat wants to remove the competition by getting those who follow the advice kicked out of school for academic dishonesty.
Thank you.

Who did she plan to cheat off of for the NCLEX exam?
Seems to me, if you cheat your way through nursing school, then you have no knowledge base at the time of the all important NCLEX.
Then what???
Advice to cheat from someone who couldn't even make it passed week 3 is something that needs to filed in one ear and right back out the other.I would guess she is trying to scare you and make herself look a little less incompetent all at the same time.
Just study hard and do the right thing. You will be fine!

Cheating is never the right thing to do. You will not be able to cheat on boards and you definitely will not be able to cheat when caring for your patients. Would you want a nurse who cheated their way through school caring for you? Learn the material, study hard, and please do not take this person's advice.

You absolutely need a study group, it helps having others to share information on. As for cheating, no. Hands down no, no way in hell no. If there are people cheating in nursing school I seriously doubt they would have the knowledge or study skills to pass NCLEX.
So get a study group and work hard!

You speak the truth. The only person to not pass NCLEX in our entire class was suspected of cheating during school. It's not worth it. There is no purpose in getting through school if you cannot pass the only exam that matters in the end.

I participated in study groups all through nursing school and great group of people - I can't even imagine thinking about cheating! You work so hard to get into school. Like others have mentioned you are in NURSING school - umm can you say ethics ? When ever we took tests the proctors walked around like hawks (as they should - I guess looking for people, like the girl in your story). Join a study group, and take this girls advice with a grain of salt.
Good luck in nursing school.

Who cares if they cheat? Can't cheat off of NCLEX. Just shrug those off.

Cheating is definitely NOT the way to be a nurse. You're right to be alarmed by this suggestion! No wonder she couldn't hack it. Yikes! Avoid her and this attitude, because it will serve NO ONE. Integrity is absolutely required in a good nurse.
