Cellphones in class

Published

I've just finished my pre reqs.

Now, i'm waiting for my letter.

My last class; the "CNA" class was very gheto. Daily, someone's cellphone would interupt the class; followed by "I'm Sorry", repeat last step. One girl had the nerve to answer her phone and start a conversation IN CLASS. The vibrate feature isn't too complicated to use. The instructor was too nice.

My brother had a teacher who would deduct 5 points from you if your phone interupted class; and 10 points and excused for the day if you answered it in class.

What are the disipline procedures for your class?

Unfortunately, the inappropriate cell phone use is pervasive in our society. It is polite to place your phone on vibrate, silence or off if you are in class, church, meeting, etc.. Some folks just don't get it.

If your cell phone went off in my nursing class, the instructor would run up to you and take it from your hands and answer it. The person on the other end would get a mouthful, and you would look like a chump. Best to have the instructors not hating you in NS....

:lol2: I bet not too many people forget to turn their phones off in her class.

My instructor has a NO PHONE Policy! Keep them out of site! She doesn't mind if you use them between classes ..... and we get a break every hour! but some of us have caught classmates texting............ as if waiting 1 hour is so horrible! What are they gonna do when they get a job as a nurse!? Tell the patient. hold on I gotta make a call..? What clowns:jester:

Oh how annoying those interruptions can be....those ringtones....once one went off and played a tune of Willy Nelson...we are in TX I almost peed in my pants:lol2:

Our teacher didn't really do anything about which didn't help! Other teachers are more verbal about their displeasure. But I don'lt know of any points deducted.

Congrats on finishing your prerequisites :monkeydance:

Same girl gets atleast 3-4 calls PER CLASS and has to leave to talk on the phone. Just really gets to me how you cant wait to check your messages when class is over.

Cell phones are not allowed in the entire nursing building. At orientation, we were told absolutely no cell phones, no chewing gum in the skills lab and no opened toe shoes. If you are late it counts as an absence. No one wants to be put on the spot. I don't think any of us wants to upset the apple cart and have one of the teacher mad at us. It is hard enough without them being upset.:jester:

We have the usual "accidental" ringing in class. Most of the time, people are very embarassed and apologetic. I have actually seen the instructors phone ring while she was lecturing...we did all get a laugh out of that and she turned pretty red herself.

There was a student in our 1st semester that spend most of lecture hiding behind her books and texting. She didnt make it to the next semester.

What if you have kids though???? You have to be reachable.........??!

Hmmm --- so then, if you're in a middle of a Code Blue situation & your kids call.......then......what.........?

I had one teacher that if it rang in class she took 5 points from everyone in the class, and promised if hers rang she would give everyone 10 points. but you can guess hers never rang
