I was 46 when I started the pre-reqs. I finished nursing school when I was 52 and have been a nurse for a little over a year. I personally would not do the LVN program. Study hard get decent grades on your pre-reqs and you will do just fine. The hardest part is enrolling after that it all fits into place. :heartbeat

I personally would go straight for the BSN. You will save alot of time. Not sure how it works in Georgia. Our LVN program is 1 1.2 years, Then you go into the RN program, another 1 1/2 years. That give you an RN with an ADN degree. You then have another two years to get your BSN. I am guessing some of your prereqs will transfer. I sure would look into it. I didn't have a choice when I did my RN with ADN. We didn't have any schools nearby that had a BSN program. Now there is one and it is impacted. I am doing my BSN online starting this semester at a Cal State. Good luck to you ! whatever you decide:heartbeat

My group did the Hurst Review. It was a 4 day seminar that went over the basics. Then I paid the $50 and listen to the recorded lectures over and over and over again. One hint we were given was to pick the safest answer to the question that was in our scope of practice. Only one person failed and it was from personal problems not the review. Good luck

I am 52, I graduated in May. I am doing a versant residency program and started in the ICU. I will work there a couple days a week and work up to the really critical patients. Then I will float to telemetry. Age isn't important in nursing.:heartbeat:redbeathe

I did not have clinical at Los Robles, My clinicals were St. John's regional, st john's pleasant valley, County and Community memorial. Pleasant valley is a small hospital. I liked Regional and County hospital the best. Regional is a CHW hospital. I am going to work at Northridge hospital which is also a CHW hospital. I believe the CHW hospitals pay the best in our area. Regional or county would be the places that I would have applied to. Hope that helps. K

I live in California. I just went to the BRN website and went to permanent license verification. Entered my last and first name. If your name comes up with RN after you passed. If you have an IPN number you can check it there. IF you fail, they pull the IPN.

I am not familiar with those other schools. I am going to go to work for Northridge. It was the first place that I applied. Los Robles is having a job fair this Friday from 1-4, they are doing interviews at the faire. Cost of living in SB is steep, alot of nurses commute.

I live in Camarillo and will be commuting to Northridge Hospital. The local hospitals, St John's Regional, St. John's Pleasant Valley, Ventura County, Community welcome new grads with open arms. They all have new grad programs. I happened to get hired in Northridge in a specialty area in a Versant training program. All of the hospitals are hiring, so it just depends on the one you pick:D

I also took the NCLEX today, I thought I was prepared. No kidding, I had 25 select all that apply. The computer shut off after 75. I came out of there thinking the worst. I don't know what to think about all those select all that apply?

One of the things we do to learn the material is quiz each other. It is one thing to think you know the stuff and another to be able to recite it. I have a really good test taking book called Test for success, it explains how to figure out what is being asked. Then it has sample questions and the rationele for why you pick one answer over another. Whatever you do get going, my daughter failed a test and it isn't very pleasant getting back into the program. I have a person that started with me and we study together and quiz each other all the time. Is there anyone you can study with?

The one thing, I recommend is a digital recorder. I loaded it on my computer and then downloaded to my ipod and listen to it in the car. If I needed to I could re-listen to any lecture on my computer and update my notes. My first half lecture instructor did her tests from the lectures. The second half instructor did a combination of reading and lecture. I have one person, I study with and we as questions to each other from our notes. Anything that is covered. It is one thing to think you know the material and another to recite it back to someone. If you can recite it back then you can test on it. The school I go to, really turns your world upside down. We were given so many assignments and our care plans took hours to complete. Never thought we would get through it and it is amazing what I have learned. Here it is xmas break and I will be going into the second semester. One day at a time is all you can do.
