First of all I would like to introduce myself. Im a 27 year old Nursing student and I love these boards.. now onto my question.
One of my best male friends has a bump on his member for the past year or so. Its at the base and gets worse when he masturbates and actually grows in size. He is freaked out, but wont go to a doctor. I told him that doctors handle this kind of stuff all the time and Im sure its nothing to be embarassed about.
He has no itching, discharge, rashes etc.. just a boil looking thing on his member. Any idea as to what it could be? And, how to I get him to go see a doctor about it? He has not had sex with anybody for the past year and has spoken with his ex and she has tested clean for everything.
any advice would be helpful. thanks!
Let's see.. the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. SO JUST KEEP ON ASKING.
DENIAL DENIAL DENIAL...This is always a hard thing to deal with. It is actually harder to deal with then fear.
Essentially all you can do is confront his denial of the need to see MD. Remind him that denying the need to see MD is not going to solve problem. It's up to him if he will take your advice. All nurses posting here have had to deal with non compliant patients. Sometimes there's nothing anyone can do. Accept this.

The masterbation info would be pertinent if IT GROWS IN SIZE when he does the deed. It would be something to tell the physician!!!
As for this thread being a "not so good" post for the FIRST post...hey, we all have to start with something to ask or say.
As for getting your friend to the doctor's office, he may be scared. This works for women, let him know you would be willing to take him to the appointment to lend him support. :)
(Besides how many of your friends and family members started asking you all sorts of medical advice, just because you were a nursing student???? AND how many of you actually tried to find out the answer for them???? Don't say you didn't.)
Good Luck!
