First of all I would like to introduce myself. Im a 27 year old Nursing student and I love these boards.. now onto my question.
One of my best male friends has a bump on his member for the past year or so. Its at the base and gets worse when he masturbates and actually grows in size. He is freaked out, but wont go to a doctor. I told him that doctors handle this kind of stuff all the time and Im sure its nothing to be embarassed about.
He has no itching, discharge, rashes etc.. just a boil looking thing on his member. Any idea as to what it could be? And, how to I get him to go see a doctor about it? He has not had sex with anybody for the past year and has spoken with his ex and she has tested clean for everything.
any advice would be helpful. thanks!

But he's not embarassed about having it announced on the internet so the entire world can see? The other posters are right... He needs to go into see his physician. As for helping him to get there let him know that if he wants to know what it is, or wants to get better, then he has to seek treatment. By coming to you, he's already half way there. With a bit of encouragement hopefully he will smarten up and go in to see the doctor.

Anonymity is the wonder of the internet world my friend. Now, if I had said this guy from this city who works at this location is having these types of problems, thats another issue all together.
And, yes I said the word masturbation. Sorry if that word "embarassed" you or anything. Sheesh...
Thanks Paul, trust me this is not going to scare me from posting.
i dunno...the title of the thread itself made me want to run..
i passed it several times and then just HAD to take a peek..and although it's not a funny situation, I'm laughing. I was eating and suddenly lost my appetite..
a rare thing for a nurse.
so, let me get this straight..
he won't go to a stranger..a doctor..someone who KNOWS..
but he'll discuss this type thing with his FEMALE friend?..even telling you it grows when he masturbates?
Are you SURE your friend isn't having a laugh at your expense??
Have you seen this bump?? What does it look like?? Does it grow while he's masturating and then shrink back down, or does it continue to grow each time? How much has it grown over the past year?
btw..welcome to Allnurses!!!
This completely amazes me. In my recent work experience, nothing gets a guy to the doctor quicker than a problem with his johnson. Bumps, lumps, rashes, warts, scales, leaks - you name it - they're waiting on the doorstep when we open.
Maybe that's just the average 20 yo male, tho.
Clearly this is something that needs to be addressed - your are correct in stating to him that doctors indeed "handle" this sort of thing all the time. He has everything to gain, including his peace of mind.
(BTW - for the guys reading this - women don't actually sit around comparing feminine hygiene products like in the commercials. Do you all sit around discussing your troubled tallywackers?)

That is not the case here either Paul ...it was a bit TMI (the masturbation part, what did THAT add?)....anyhow, as for me, also, and I gave her my best advice. No one was trying to make her feel like a "dumbass". Can't we have ANY discussions here w/o all the nastiness? This is gettin old quick.
