First of all I would like to introduce myself. Im a 27 year old Nursing student and I love these boards.. now onto my question.
One of my best male friends has a bump on his member for the past year or so. Its at the base and gets worse when he masturbates and actually grows in size. He is freaked out, but wont go to a doctor. I told him that doctors handle this kind of stuff all the time and Im sure its nothing to be embarassed about.
He has no itching, discharge, rashes etc.. just a boil looking thing on his member. Any idea as to what it could be? And, how to I get him to go see a doctor about it? He has not had sex with anybody for the past year and has spoken with his ex and she has tested clean for everything.
any advice would be helpful. thanks!
OK then tell him if he does not go, it could be a serious health issue he is passing up treating. ONE THAT COULD BE DISFIGURING OR EVEN LIFE-THREATENING. Is THAT gonna help you now?????? If he is still not willing, welp he is adult and he can deal w/the consequences of being negligent of self.
Jessy, I think sometimes people on this board get frusturated because there are often people who post solely to ask nurses medical advice (I'm not saying you are one of those people but it happens, frequently). I think it's great that you are concerned for your friend but there really is no easy way to convince him to go to the doctor, especially if he is in denial. So, the best you can do is to tell him that he should get it checked out and hope that he listens!

I wasn't overreacting.
Your post gave intimate details about "a friend" and you asked what could be wrong.
No doc wouldn't attempt to dx without an assessment and nurses even more so.
I never addressed the issue of how to get him to go to the doc because, as you said, if he's had it for a year and he hasn't gone yet, i have no idea what'll make him now.
You asked an honest question; you got several honest answers. Good luck.
Hi JESSY
I think any question is a good first question!
As far as why you should be concerned for the guy? Let's see um guys go all the time for periods of time with chest pains, black outs etc. and wait until they have massive heartattacks to go Its OUR nature.
So dont be scared to make future posts, only a few people on here try to make new posters look like dumb asses.
