Blood pressure cuff?

Published

So we started doing VS in lab this week, and I was wondering if there are any websites with decent/affordable BP cuffs? I would love to have the extra practice since we don't have open lab and only practice during our scheduled lab times, and it might prove useful in the future.

You might try allheart.com, they have a lot of great accessories and medical devices for pretty good prices! That is where I got mine. No complaints.

Allheart.com, or amazon.

Look for one with a warranty. They tend to konk out pretty easily!

I got a cute one from allheart.com

I just went to a pharmacy/medical supply store affiliated with the local hospital. They were very helpful and accommodating, taking each style of out the packaging for me so I could look them over and feel the quality. I ended up with a very nice inexpensive sphygmo, and I couldn't be happier. It got me through physical assessment checkoffs and I still use it all the time.

The place that sold my scrubs had an affordable BP cuff kit that included a stethoscope. The stethoscope is actually pretty good. I feel like I hear better with that one than with my more expensive one I bought for school :)

Wow, thanks for all your suggestions! I guess I'll have to surf through them and see what design to choose. For the warranty, like with allheart, how exactly does that work? Every time your cuff is no longer calibrated, do you have to ship your cuff to them? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question - I'm just wondering exactly what their warranty entails.

I'm surprised you guys weren't required to have one. We were. When we go to do clinicals for this first semester we have to do all of our own manual blood pressures. I got one at Scrubs and Beyond in Indy for $34. Plus I think they give Ivy Tech students a 10% discount. I originally looked at allheart but didn't order from there because the color I wanted was on back order. We don't get to do vitals in lab until next week. But you guys don't have any open lab time?

Since most hospitals don't allow you to use your own BP cuff, I think they saw it as unnecessary. I just ordered one earlier today for around $24? Do you guys have to do peer skill check-offs too? We have so much to do during lab but not enough lab time.. Nope, no open lab. What did you guys do for this week then?

We did vitals for lecture and then beds and bath for lab. Yes, we have peer check offs and then we had instructor checkoffs on bed positions, transferring, and passive range of motion today. Next week in lab we have the check offs on bed making and bed baths. The instructor check offs were pretty easy once we felt comfortable and our instructor made sure we did. I really like all of my instructors so far. I can't believe we are halfway through fundamentals already!! Med/Surg I in like 3 weeks!!
