So we started doing VS in lab this week, and I was wondering if there are any websites with decent/affordable BP cuffs? I would love to have the extra practice since we don't have open lab and only practice during our scheduled lab times, and it might prove useful in the future.
That sounds awesome! I was actually thinking of using it more within the family, since I have a mother who tends to have a higher BP and getting a feel for everyone's BP. Never know when I might be able to catch something off and escort them to hospital! (Not that I'm hoping for that, but it could potentially save a life). Plus I'll get a lot of practice in
I think it's a great idea to buy your own BP cuff. I bought mine while in CNA school from walmart. I practiced on everyone: my then husband, my kids, my mom, my nieces and nephews. (Had to put it on their thighs). It helped me to get good at taking BPs. In nursing school I also practiced on family.
After I became proficient, I just had to work on developing confidence on my abilities. (-;

I can't add to your original question, but I will say that I use my BP cuffs (yes, plural, as I have a large as well) all the time. I do nursing care outside of the hospital (yay for being a new grad), and depending on the situation, I am often SO glad I have my cuffs and stethoscope with me!! For some of my infusion patients, I am doing frequent VS (q15 minutes, even), and for the health fairs I do, if the auto BP cuff malfunctions for whatever reason, or they are too large for it, I am ready to go. Pays to be prepared!
