Bitter dried up nurses that need to RETIRE

Nurses Relations

Title says it all . Second semester baby nurse in clinicals at a major hospital.

Patients = Awesome

Most Nurses = Very sweet and helpful

Some nurses are rude, terse, horrible with patients, horrible with students and horrible with each other.

To those nurses I say this, please retire.

Its only a matter of time before management figures out they can live without you and hire some very hungry and very competent new grads that want to be there to fill your dusty shoes....

word...

sadly the vast majority of the time these happen to also be charge nurses....in charge of what? Misery?

Hmmmm, well I guess my response would be this: Get out of nursing school. Become a NURSE, not a student, and don't try to judge the experienced nurses until you've walked a mile in their shoes. They may sound bitter and hateful, but more than likely they're just seasoned battle axes who've seen more than their share of the war. Yeah, I have worked around some hateful old nurses in ICU, but trust me when I say this...When my patient is going south, there is no one who knows their S*** more than some of these nurses. They've been around the block, and alllllllll the clinicals in the world is no match to real on the job training.

my advise-nobody likes someone who's wet behind the ears trying to judge them. Again, walk a mile in their shoes, and then feel free to post the above if you still feel that way.

Am I wrong? Lets talk about it

perhaps you can read the many discussions we'd had on this.

search for "eat* their young" and you should get many results.

Ans nascar, the thread wont last the night....it will get taken down for sure, but I feel better for ranting...

Wow. You have a lot to learn. Best thing you can do is listen to these nurses. They are experienced and you can learn a lot from them. You have a lot of attitude for someone still in school.

Word of the wise, focus on quality patient care NOT customer service, talk to some nurses and you'll quickly find out that many of us believe that a customer service approach to handling our patients leads to unrealistic expectations and a more hostile environment from administration.

Yes, healthcare is a business, but it's much different than going to Wal-Mart or Burger King.

I have a degree in management and tons of management experience, as soon as possible it is my goal to become a nurse manager and guess what, It is going to my mission in life to bring customer service back to nursing care. Remember the customer? Yes, the one in the bed, yes, thats right, the patient.

Well, being a manager elsewhere is nothing like being a NM. Maybe there isn't customer service at your facility, but it sure is at mine. Maybe you need to move on and find a place that meets your requirements.

this thread has got to be a joke.....

I'm glad most nurses = very sweet & helpful. Unfortunately, there are tired, burnt out people where ever you work and in ANY field. You could try and brighten their day ... make them feel important ... they probably know a lot and could pass on very valuable "hands on" experience knowledge ... not just "book stuff". They are probably very BUSY and may seem harsh to you ..... and may be invaluable to management because they can get things done efficiently :-0

Was thinking of hiding in the basement myself. LOL. Wanna lay a bet on how quickly it gets shut down by a mod for being out of control????

25 to 2.

And that is ALL I am sayin.

Yeah its definitley a joke, nothing to see here, carry on.

But seriously folks, like I said, most nurse I have met are absolutely awesome, but a few have no business calling themselves a Registered Nurse....

I do have a lot to learn, and I love to learn. But when I get paired up with someone who obviously wants nothing to do with me, its tough.

The other day though a seasoned nurse called me over and said he was going to give me a dose of reality. He had me doing everything and he was awesome. I learned more in that 12 hour shift than I learned in 1.5 semesters of nursing school.........

So please dont get me wrong folks, most RN's are awesome, this post was directed at the very few that truly do need to step aside.....

Marianne, I dont give a rats patootie how they treat me, Its not about me. I have very thick skin. But to see this creeps yell at vulnerable patients is inexcusable....you would have had to have been there, it was brutal....
