Best shoes for 12 hours

Hey!

I wondering what are the best nursing shoes for working 12 hours on your feet?

Any tips on how to make it through without your feet hurting?

Alegrias. Took me a while to get to them since everyone praises the Danskos (which I've tried and did not like) so I was like I'll stay away from the clogs. Tried the athletic shoes...none of them provided the support for 12hrs and a lot of them taper at the tip so my poor pinky toe is all red by the end of the shift. The Alegrias have soles that are latex combined with cork and they have a wide toe box so when your feet swell up they don't rub against the sides of the shoe. I swear I do not work for them, but they honestly are the best shoes for my feet. I go through a whole shift and my feet aren't begging for a mercy death.

Asics GT, amazing shoes - made a huge difference for me!

I have bought SO many shoes. I hate danskos. I'm ok with Alegrias but I love Abeo. I just bought Nursemates and I haven't worn them long enough to have an opinion yet.

My suggestion - Pick one and wear them. If you hate them - don't buy them again. I will say I hated the Danskos the moment I put them on and bought them anyway. My feet hurt for 2 weeks and I kept wearing them. As soon as I stopped wearing them - my feet stopped hurting. It takes me about 12 hours to break in a pair of Abeo. I easily spent $500 on shoes before I found the shoes for me. I figure its an investment. The danskos I gave away - the others I just rotate in and out to get their wear out of them. I'm sure you could sell them if you can't return them.

Good Luck!

Wait why are y'all wearing compression stockings at work?

Because my calves hurt if I don't. We're on our feet all day, and lots of the compression stockings are geared for runners (I figure nursing is just slow running).

Ok I figured but wasn't sure if it also had to do with blood pooling from being on your feet all day which is why I was curious.

Hokas, hands down the best shoes.

The kind that your feet feel best in after 12 hours, get 2 pairs. For me I like Nikes, wide sized because my feet swell when I work 12s. Rotate your shoes.

My OrthoPod surgeon recommended Asics, too. I use the Gel Nimbus. Love them. This from someone he put a lotta work in on the feet/ankles.

I love my Alegria shoes!

I did something similar when I first started on 12 hour shifts, I would switch shoes at the halfway point going from clogs to tennis shoes. That seemed to work for me as each type I tried had different pressure points.
