Hello fellow "oldies"!!!!

I turned 34 yesterday...I have a 10 year old and a 4.5 year old.....I just went back to work part-time at my daughters pre-school for some extra cash after being a SAHM for the past 6.5 years....there's been a lot to get used to!

I am currently knocking out pre-reqs....will take A&P next fall and hopefully start the nursing program fall of '08.

Heck no, you are never too old to learn. I hopefully will be way into my nursing program by that time at 32 years old with (2) children. Whatever you think of can become reality. Go for yours!

I'm a non-traditional male student of 33.1 years. I have 2 cats, Purseus (bengal) and Meatwad (adopted kitten). I'm single (sort of have a gf) with no kids.

I was a Dr. in my previous life...an electrician. Motorola so rudely closed our facility down and sent all work to Juarez Mexico. Lies were told in a very dishonorable way:angryfire. I now work part time at UPS as a package handler (it's like playing tetris with boxes). I'm currently taking Nutrition and bio of human disease. I have all my pre-reqs finished for my local school's ADN program and i'm waiting mid-late Oct for an answer (the correct answer is yes!).

I'm 17 (since August) and will be done with my pre-req's for an ADN at the end of next Spring. I'm so excited! I always shock people in class with my age though... it's kinda funny. :)

When I was thirty, joined the Army. It was hard and tough!!!

In the Army I was an EMT. I applied to Charlie school (LPN) when I was 34.

It was a great career in the Army. I had 10 years in then decided to get out. I am 54 now and had a thought to go for at least an ADN. Then I woke up. I make as much as ADN's make and the thought of going back to school is to complicated for me. I have accomplished what I have started to do, and for me, it is enough.

No one is to old to advance or change a career move. Good luck to all that do.:mortarboard:

Hi Everybody.
I'm new to this board, but it seems that there are a lot of older/returning students here.
Just out of curiousity, how old are you and where are you in life???
I'm 33 and a SAHM to two children: dd(3), and ds(1). I'm hoping to get into UF's accelerated BSN program next summer and somehow find time to balance it all....to be honest, it's a little intimidating to think about.

Too old, never. I am 43 and am starting clinicals in spring 07. Programs starts in January and I am excited. I have a 24 year old who just graduated college, a 16 year old in 11th grade and a "did you just say I am having a baby" 4 year old. It is tough, but it has always been my dream, and I have raised my children to never give up on their dreams. I guess that encourages me even more, can't let them see me give up. Good luck. Martha

I'm a 33yo SAHM with four -- 6, 4, 3 and 4 months. Did the whole college thing right out of high school but am doing sooooo much better the second time around (not that I did half bad before). Currently taking prereqs which should be finished up by summer. Hoping to get into the program either next Fall or the following Spring.

That's the way to do it! I know a gal who had just turned 20 when she got her ADN and passed her boards. Not only that, she had apprenticed with a homebirth MW, as well as took an externship during school. So by all of 20 years old, and as a new grad even, she had hospitals knocking themselves over to get at her. I always thought dang! Wish I had it that together at that age, lol.

I don't think you are ever too old to go to school for Nursing! My mom is 47 and she wants to go to school for Nursing, and I'm trying to convince her. I say go for it, because even if you are a Nurse for a short time if that's what you really want to do then you will feel better knowing you did it. If you don't go, you will probably always regret it. My neighbor who is 80 says that is the one thing in her life that she regrets. Besides if my mom does it we can help each other with our homework lol.

Tell your mom I am 50 (as of last December) and just started NS this fall. I am about the oldest in this particular class, but there is a 2nd or 3rd semester class that comes in our class after us one day each week, and I swear that 50% of them are 60+!! There is a gal in my class who has a daughter who's already a nurse, so you know she's in her 40's somewhere!

Tell her, or show her, on this website, the threads about older students. I've ready plenty where the students ARE in their 60's....and good luck to both of you!!

I have taught at an elementary school for 13 years. I always said that I would go back for my nursing degree when my son was out of school.

Now looking at the NLN RN Pre-Entrance exam really scares me. All of my classes taken prior can be used for my degree, so all I have to take is Advanced Anatomy and Microbiology.

I am just not sure I am going to pass the math on this exam. It seems so difficult. Some people have told me the test was easier than the practice book, but I have heard of people not passing. I have to score in the 50th percentile to get 1 point toward acceptance because I didn't take the ACT or the SAT:uhoh3:

I had taken the test last December and I will say I thought the problems in the book were harder than the problems on the test, but if you know how to solve the ones in the book, you should do well. Just study the book...it's really all we have to go off of. Some say that it doesn't help, but I beg to differ. I passed last December, but not high enough, but due to some circumstances, I didn't get to study (the changed the screening date and I wasn't aware - they moved it up by 3 months, so I had less than 24 hours to study before the last test).

I believe if you study the book, you should do well. Make flashcards if you have to - I'm doing that this time around. Best of luck to you on the test!! :w00t:
