  1. Hey Olivia, good luck with the NET this Saturday. Did you purchase the NET study guide? Was it helpful? I will keep you posted on my process. You can e-mail me at [email protected] Ciao!
  2. No, I'm not an LPN. As I stated previously, I have my B.S. Degree in Health Education and Promotion but looking to take a different path by becoming an RN/NP. So far, I have all the pre-requisites and sent in the application along with a $40.00 processing fee. I did finally receive a letter in the mail on Saturday indicating that "eligible candidates will receive and invite to take the (NET). I'm praying that hopefully I will be accepted into this program. I'm still waiting on my colleges to send my official transcripts so the ball can start rolling. My surgeon wrote me a wonderful personal reference letter to attest to my capabilities, etc. So now, I just wait in anticipation.
  3. Heck no, you are never too old to learn. I hopefully will be way into my nursing program by that time at 32 years old with (2) children. Whatever you think of can become reality. Go for yours!
  4. At my present job as a Clinical Administrative Assistant, my Cardiothoracic Surgeon only wants an NP or PA taking care of his patients. That's why I as soon as I finish my RN Degree, I will be focusing on becoming a Nurse Practioner. In my institution, you'd be surprised at what a title and extra knowledge can do for you and your salary. Even though I'm not clinical at my current job, I hold an A.A.S in Office Medical Assisting, a B.S. in Health Education and Promotion and am also a Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES). You figured, I would be satisfied in my current position. For me, there is always room to learn and expand the mind; besides, I love my patients and love the clinical research I assist my NP's wth. All in all, I think making the BSN program is an excellent idea; especially if your employer is going to pay for it. It's all about empowering and motivating the mind. Thank you.
  5. Good Morning, I just recently submitted an application to The Dorothea Hopfer School of Nursing in Mt. Vernon, NY for the Spring 2008 - Evening Program. Unfortunately, I was a little bit too late for the Spring 2007 entry. So far, it looks as though I may be well on my way. I'm just waiting for my transcripts to be sent from my colleges and my reference letter from my MD. Has anyone graduated from this A.A.S Degree program or currently at Hopfer? Just looking for a little insight. Thank you.
  6. Good Morning, I really don't think you are crazy because when it boils down to it, "you do what you gotta do" and if your heart, mind, and soul is into it - failure is not an option. For instance, I earned my AAS and BS while working full-time and being a single parent of (2). Now, I too, am looking to start my career as an RN but I will first start by becoming an LPN because of my current situation. I plan on entering Bronx Community College's (Bronx, NY) in Fall of 2007. Their program is only offered in the evening's from 5:30 -10:00 p.m., I still plan on working full-time in my current position at Montefiore Medical Center as the Clinical/Administrative Coordinator for CT Surgery which is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30. I know I will be beyond exhausted but the mentality is already there, I work with patients everyday and just want to take it a step higher providing medical care. Besides, as I said previously, my heart, mind, and soul will be 100% into this - so failure is NOT an option on my end. Good Luck to you and you can do it!
  7. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site. I'm bascially looking for an evening RN program in NYC . As I've looked around, there seems to be very few that caters to students looking for part-time study. At present, I have an AAS Degree in Medical Office Assisting from Bronx Community College and a BS in Health Education Promotion from Lehman College. Now of course, I would love to attend Lehman's nursing program but they only offer day classes. Since I'm a single mother of (2) children 2 yrs old and 10 yr old, I need to work. Currently, I serve as the Clinical Admin. Asst. for Cardiothoracic Surgery but my fulfillment lies in being clinical, handling the care/medical management of the patients that I see. Despite my children and the need to work full-time, I believe with hard work and dedication - ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH GOD! So my projected date of entering a nursing program would be 2007. If anyone could be of assistance, I would greatly appreciate it. **Note: A friend suggested that I become an LPN first then work my way up? What are your thoughts about that statement? Would that be the wiser choice given my current situation? I can be reached at [email protected] Thank you, Soon-to-be RN/NP (Cardiology)
