Hi Everybody.
I'm new to this board, but it seems that there are a lot of older/returning students here.
Just out of curiousity, how old are you and where are you in life???
I'm 33 and a SAHM to two children: dd(3), and ds(1). I'm hoping to get into UF's Accelerated BSN program next summer and somehow find time to balance it all....to be honest, it's a little intimidating to think about.
Good luck to us all!!!

I graduated from college the first time at age 25 as a paralegal....was a single mom to 3 kids. I got bored with paralegal work, ended up working in education for 9 years with kids with multiple handicaps and headed back to school once again at age 40 for my LPN. I've never been able to be a stay at home mom (except during PN school)...too many kids (ages 15, 19, 21, 23, 23) a husband and a dog. I am an LPN now working on my RN at age 41. At times I feel old d/t health issues but for the most part not. I only dread the day that my 'baby' leaves and our days of soccer, basketball, track, etc. are over.
New to the board. I am 38 years old! Ugh! I am divorced, have 3 kids (5, 4, & 3). I RARELY get a break from my ex-husband.
I have worked as a Technical Writer for years but do not want to return to it. It is a very volatile industry. One day they need you, the next day they are cutting the budget and you are the first to go.
But despite all of the negatives, I have decided to become an RN via the Associates Degree route. Am I nuts? I do have a Bachelor of Arts that I should be able to transfer some credits from.
I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned about returning to school!
You old??? Nah! Now me, I'm older than dirt!
And guess what?...Just got my PSB results, am currently working on my generals (to get them done beforehand) and hope to have an acceptance letter in hand by the end of March, 2007 so I'm certain of being on my way to the local nursing program at school for fall semester next year.
My age??? 52 and proud of it.
Best 2nd career I could think of...and now it's my dream honey...
I'm 35 years old, and really enjoying my 30's! I've been married for 2 years. I am a grantwriter, and am really nervous about this career change. I come from a long line of nurses, both here and in Ireland, so I guess it's in my blood.
I used to teach college composition, and the best students were always the "returning" students. Here's to maturity and dedication!
Hi everyone, us "non-traditional" students are becoming quite "traditional"!! I'm 32, 3kids..8,3 and almost 2, and a 12yo stepson. I am waiting for two letters, one any day and one in March for next fall (that's the one I really want). I currently work at a hosp in communications, it's fun, convinced me med school wasn't going to be for me. I am glad to see so many people my age with the same dream!!!
I'm 23 and I have a year pre-req's to do before I get into the nursing program. I'm married and have a two-year old son. It's really a lot of work, studying and also catering to the needs of your family and yourself. However, I have my main goal, which is to earn a BSN in Nursing. Yes, I'm not the youngest in my classes, but I'm determined to achieve this goal.
Hi, I am 26 years old, a wife and SAHM to an 11 month old daughter. The ADN will be my second degree, my first one was a BS in Biology, but didn't want to be a teacher or work in a lab, and liked that nursing offered so many more options, so here I am, waiting to get into a program at a local community college.

I'm LOVING this topic!
I'm 35 and work full-time as a legal secretary (been doing this for a little over 10 years). Before that, I worked as a production manager in an advertising research firm. I got into law school 2 years ago and dropped out after 3 months because I HATED it...it was SOOOOO boring and I couldn't see myself practicing law for the next 30 or so years.
Last year I started volunteering at an AIDS hospice and I haven't been the same since! I love taking care of the patients on their final journey in life and I can't even describe the feeling of fullfillment that I have when I finish my volunteer shift. I decided that I would rather spend 50-60 hours a week doing that kind of work, then sitting at a desk filling out expense reports.
I'm going to start working on my pre-reqs in the fall and then on to nursing school and hopefully a career either in hospice or working with AIDS patients.
I figure I'll be in my 40's whether I start a second career or not, so what do I have to lose?
