Applicants to Portland area Nursing Programs for 2015

Published

Hi everyone! I am so excited that application season for 2015 is finally here. I am new to this board, but read several threads last year and learned a lot in preparation for my own applications. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat this year. :)

I have a BA in History, but have completed most of my pre-req's at PCC. My cumulative GPA is only 3.46, but my pre-req's will be a 4.0 (provided this Fall term continues to go well...) My top choice is UP, partly because I work for Providence and would love to continue to work for them as a nurse one day. I would also LOVE to go to OHSU of course! I am also applying to Linfield, PCC and possibly CCC. I am curious to hear which programs people are applying for. Such an exciting time to be moving towards our career goals!

Yes they mentioned that we should find out 1st week of May and if not, definitely find out 2nd week of May!

I can't believe only 24 will be accepted!

Hey guys... both PCC and CCC said we'd hear the week of May 11 (at the latest), and MHCC said by May 15. I think I did really well on the written PCC interview, and really well on the verbal part of the CCC interview. The essay at CCC WAS hard! I agree. It was such a short amount of time to really get your brain going, figure out what you wanted to say, and then get it typed out. As far as MHCC - I didn't feel great about either piece of the interview. The written part was HAND WRITTEN and 2 essays in 30 min. The essays were pretty generic and lame too (...that's not very nice, but it's how I felt about it). The verbal instructions were NOT clear and we were given a VERY short time to answer both questions. The ladies also talked about us the moment we walked out of the room, until they called the next candidate in. How unprofessional! Wait til we leave... we can hear you! Although I will be very thankful and grateful to be admitted at any of the 4 programs I applied to, I certainly hope I have a choice because MHCC is not at the top of my list...

Yesterday was totally exhausting @schicharro, CNA! I was at Clackamas from 7:50-9:30, then worked from 9:45-4:30, and then went to MHCC from 5:20-7:30. Oy... glad that day is in the past now!

Are we sure that CCC now only accepts a cohort of 24 or is someone confusing this with their CNA which I know only accepts 24 per semester. It would sure really suck if they went from a class of 40 to only 24 :(

After the interview for the BSN program I asked and she said that it was a very difficult decision but they choose to drop it to 18-24. And then all of my hope withered away lol:cry:

I kind of liked the CCC essay! It wasn't what I was expecting, but maybe that's what I liked about it? I'd feel a lot more comfortable with how my interview went if they were accepting more applicants than they are. It's funny how different all the formats were! I liked the people at MHCC a lot and I feel really informed about their program now. Unfortunately they were my final interview, and while I feel like theirs was much easier than the others, I had the hardest time with it. Of course I loved just writing an essay for PCC :) I got accepted to OHSU last week but I am sort of holding out for community college for financial reasons. Does anyone have a top choice? If yes, why is that school your top pick? I'd love to get some info that would separate one of these programs from the pack!

Hey everyone! I'm so excited/anxious about this years application process! This will be my second year applying. I have the proctored essay with Chemeketa on the 11th and an interview with Clackamas on the 22nd. For those who applied to Clackamas what do your points look like? I have a 3.8 GPA and have 55.88/64 points with CCC. Good luck all!

I am in a similar position and this is my first year applying to both schools. I have 54 Points and a 4.0 average for Clackamas. I took the proctored essay at Chemeketa, but apparently missed the mark? Followed the instructions verbatim, generated my essay ahead of time and sought feedback, yet I scored a 46/50. With my essay, my total points for Chemeketa will be 356, so I may have to hang out for a little bit and try to get in again next year.

If you were offered admission to both programs, which would you choose?

Just got my acceptance email from Clackamas at 11:30am! WOOHOO!

Wait listed at clackamas but was invited to orientation so I know I'm in the top 15. Still hopeful for PCC. Congrats ajw414 !!!!

So did I. Nicely done. I take it you're accepting their admission offer?

Congrats everyone! I have not heard anything yet. ): hoping I still have a chance. Does anyone know if they send out all acceptance letters today or daily this week?

Got an email today and I am on the alternate list and was invited to orientation on the 29th. Hoping to get a spot but I know most people love Clackamas and are wanting to go there. Congrats to all who were accepted!

Just curious... What did the CCC waitlist and acceptance emails look like. Can anyone post what it said minus all the other instruction stuff.

P.S. CCC cohort is 24 this year, officially.
