Does anyone know of any hospital that are currently hiring new grads without any experience? I graduated May '09, and it's so hard finding a job without experience. Thanks.
I just looked at the website for Trinity Mother Francis and it says the new grad program is extremely competitive. I also graduated a couple years ago and am just now looking for a job (long story) so it will be even more difficult for me....I need to know who is hurting the MOST for nurses so I can go there! WHere is THAT at???
This is a wonderful thread and I am really grateful for all the information. It seems like Texas is a hot spot for RN's.....is there a particular reason that there are more jobs there than elsewhere? I can live anywhere and am willing to relocate, just wondered what the down side was besides the heat and humidity? Anything I am missing?
Thanks a bunch and good luck to all!

Just a few hurricanes, hot climate, kind of in the middle of nowhere, dead cities....
Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN, currently has the application process open for their summer nurse residency. I just got hired for their winter cohort and will start in January. The program is competitive, but fair! I'd run into a lot of facilities that are very arbitrary in how they make their selections - you either know someone or there's a favoritisim/selection process. Vanderbilt doesn't work that way. They hire based on achievement, experience, reference letters, GPA, etc.

1. Middle of nowhere? I'll give you that
2. Hurricanes? Not a problem to most of Texas, You're as likely to get hurricane affected weather in DFW, San Antonio & Austin areas as you would to get it in Montana or Minnesota.
3. Kind of hot, yep, but not humid everywhere.
4. Dead Cities? Yes, there are many "ghost towns" out in the boondocks, but that's not where most of the jobs are. Most of the jobs are in the metro areas, which far from being dead are not suffering nearly as much as the rest of the nation. That would be why Texas still has nursing jobs.
Biggest disadvantage to Texas? If you are not used to Southern, specifically Texan (which is not typically Southern) culture and are not ready to live with it, you may not want to make the move. But I think that could be said of many areas. I had huge adjustments to culture when I moved to Texas from the Deep South.

Do you (anyone) know anything about Austin, specifically? I think that's the only place in or anywhere near Texas I could hang. . .
