  1. DR, What'd you end up deciding? :)
  2. Christmas is coming up. If you have family able to give presents, ask for monies. I would take bets that, if the family is large enough, you might be able to make enough for the licensing - at least! Good luck on your endeavor. My husband and I are also picking up and relocating next month for nursing jobs. It's tricky, stressful, and tiring to know you'll be so far from the ones you love... but it's so doable! :) Be strong.
  3. I just saw the news reports. Pretty hefty and it feels like they aren't being too kind. Some of them are saying that she was going in and out of consciousness just this past week but it sounded like no one said or did anything. Goodness knows if the girl had some emotional / perfectionistic issues, being fired from a movie might have done a number to an already weakened self esteem. Though, it seems fishy to me that the husband would refuse. Wouldn't most people want to know why their spouse suddenly collapses and dies? When people refuse, it makes me think of homicide... Overall, a sad thing. My husband was reading a Time magazine today and it was covering all the people who died this year. It's been a lot. He was shocked at the number.
  4. Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN, currently has the application process open for their summer nurse residency. I just got hired for their winter cohort and will start in January. The program is competitive, but fair! I'd run into a lot of facilities that are very arbitrary in how they make their selections - you either know someone or there's a favoritisim/selection process. Vanderbilt doesn't work that way. They hire based on achievement, experience, reference letters, GPA, etc.
  5. 18.25 is the starting new grad rate. Rate may change depending on the track that you are in.
  6. Sounds like there might be quite a few Critical Care residents. I wonder if that's related to the new tower. I'm also on the Critical Care Track and am looking forward to making new friends... Slightly overwhelmed by the out of state thing... and what to do with the house and pets! busy, busy!
  7. Leah, I sent you an email! Thanks for the notice. I'm not sure why you couldn't send messages. I definitely don't have premium services and can still send... so odd! Nurse901, I'm glad you posted that! I had a feeling that there would be people who would be forced, for one reason or another, to turn the positions down or to reconsider them. My husband and I have really had to sit down and make considerations about the offer I received. He's a nurse too and there's no guarantees, y'know? It's a thoughtful process and not for everyone when the opportunity occurs!
  8. Isn't it official when you accept the offer? I don't think it can get any more official than when you start your first day... and do the other hiring paperwork, y'know? :) Grats on your letter, btw!
  9. The way I understand how they chose people was based on a scoring system. You got points for your GPA, your reference letters, your letters of intent and then your interview was scored. I was assured that it was a very fair system and people were selected based on highest scores. Beyond that, I am not sure how people are placed into specific tracks. It would be hard to guess. I'm sorry to those who didn't get in and/or got wait listed!
  10. Oh, wow. That's nerve wracking. I'm not sure I wanted to know that! Hehe. Thanks, Madonna. It's good to know! I'll be checking my email like a hawk now!
  11. I had three people for an adult track interview... and one was a manager. Looking back, there will always be questions where I stumbled on my words, gave examples that required them to draw out further information, etc... but I don't know how much things like that affect it. I wonder how many points are available total... or even how much GPA is weighted. Oh well. What're we now? 2 to 3 weeks out? I hope the interview point system is as fair as ***** says it is... 'cause it sounds like they're using a lot of different people to interview and that can affect things... but ***** insisted to me that the system is very fair...
  12. Does anyone know if we will receive an email one way or the other? Or only if we're offered a position?
  13. I'm just trying to stay distracted and praying lots... but if it weren't for that, I'd be doing the same!
