Absolutely refuse to take Nclex again

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey Guys...need to vent...

Took the nclex rn today. Don't feel good about it at all!!! Got 75 questions ( I know that may not mean much on whether I passed or failed), bunch of questions I was not sure of. I got a feeling of impending doom right now...(no chest pain :)). In case I did not pass I WILL NOT take it again. Too much heartache to go through again. I'm young (23) I'll find somehting else to do...just think I'd make a pretty decent nurse...

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

First, you don't know if you failed.

This is probably going to sound harsh, but how many other things have you failed at in life and just gave up on, and how many will happen in the future? Life is full of failures, successes, etc., but if you give up after the first try for everything, how far would you have gotten to now?

Had to smile at your post. Believe me, if you put all that work into nursing school, you WOULD take the NCLEX again ;)

Still, I doubt it'll be necessary....with about 85% of first-time test takers passing, the odds are excellent that you won't need to look at another NCLEX exam :)

I wish you the best so that you won't have to go through it again. Try to find something to keep your mind occupied. I've done it twice and I definitely know the heartache. So do a few others. But now that I've passed (just found out yesterday) I look at the first time as a stepping stone. A definite learning experience-at least the 2nd time there were no surprises. I only like surprises if it's jewelry:mad: !

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Don't give up hope! You're to young.

Specializes in Critical Care.

NCLEX is NOT your make or break test in nursing: surviving your first year of 'really' learning to be a nurse is.

You'll need a much stronger constitution to pass that test.

Don't let NCLEX get you down, I'm sure you did fine. But, don't go into nursing with the attitude that 'I'm outta here if it gets difficult'.

Otherwise, whether or not you passed NCLEX doesn't matter.

Yeah, nursing makes a decent salary these days, and that attracts lots of candidates. But believe those of us that are EXPERIENCED when we say that nursing is an underpaid profession.

There are many many things that I've told myself that I 'absolutely refuse' to do, only to find the need to summon the courage to do them in the crux of the moment. . . Or, as they say, fair weather never made skilled sailors. . .

Good luck on your test.

Wishing you all the best, and I have to let you know this week would be my second time testing, I have work to hard in nursing school to let the nclex exam make me lose out on a profession I love from the bottom of my heart, take it easy and relax, the odds are with you, God bless

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Good luck!

Your flip comment that there are plenty of other things to do, just "thought I'd make a pretty decent nurse" is just you lying to yourself as a defense mechanism, because if you really didn't want real badto be a nurse you wouldn't have gone this far. The whole process from beginning to NCLEX is just to tough to have such a casual approach and I don't believe you for a minute. LOL

It ain't over until it's over. Good luck on passing the first try!!!

Hey KKA, you can't have that negative attitude! Lots of people pass the first time, and those that don't usually pass the 2nd time around. :) I didn't get accepted into one nursing school, so I applied to another one and got in, graduated with a 3.7, and passed my NCLEX w/ 75 questions on the first try. If I had given up just b/c one school didn't want me, I wouldn't be a nurse right now. :nurse: You're just freaking out about your test, which is totally normal. I wish you all the best in your new career as an RN!

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Perhaps you should wait for that passing result in a few days. ;)

And please don't allow all your efforts and schooling go to waste. Keep on trucking.

I know NCLEX can be very aggravating. I failed my first try, but I will be taking it again. It is a hellish experience having to prepare again, and then going through the same stress again. The way I look at is that I've already invested too much time, money and energy trying to get through nursing school to give up on taking it until I do pass.

Specializes in NICU, Infection Control.

When I came home from my "boards" (2 days, six tests, had to go to Long Beach, they only gave it a couple of times/yr), I told my Dad he'd wasted his $$, I was gonna fail, and I wasn't going back. He just looked @ me, deer in the headlights. "OK".

I passed.

Thank you for all the replies...I will know the results of my test by tomorrow...Congratulations Chiefy on passing it!!!!!
