question: is the transverse abdominis the muscle of the abdomen that starts high in the abdomen and towards the bottom is more some kind of sheath?

My understanding is that the transverse abdominis is under the rectus abdominis. That's what our instructor told us. Hope its right.

Transverse abdominis would be the one that is transverse. (horizontally) ...the deepest muscle in the abdominal wall.

"The transversus abdominis muscle, also known as the transverse abdominal muscle, is a muscle layer of the anterior and lateral abdominal wall which is deep to the internal oblique muscle. The muscle arises from the ribs and the iliac crest and inserts into the pubic tubercle via the conjoint tendon, also known as the falx inguinalis."

Thanks guys. We have a muscle practicle on Tuesday.... I am ok, except for rhomboid major, which really confuses me. I think I have the abdomin down.

Not much to say here, just bumping our post up so it doesn't get lost! I spent part of the afternoon today in the lab with the microscope and came out into our first big snowstorm! We are doing sheep brains in lab this week.

I had my first A&P free weekend! We just took a test on Thursday and I just didn't feel like studying for the next one yet (you have to take a break once in a while or else you will go crazy). It felt so good not to think about it for a couple of days. Now I feel recharged and ready to study for the next test. I really like the class, but the constant studying can drive a person nuts :uhoh21:

I agree so very much with you, the constant studying can drive you nuts.....I am currently going nuts but took Sunday off to go to the Zoo with my family and it was soooooooooooo nice to give that brain a break for a few hours, walk with my husband and watch my son have a good time. A&P is pure :angryfire

It's a catch-22 though. I feel guilty for studying all the time, and not spending more time with my family, but if I go out with my hubby, or we do something as a family, I feel guilty for not studying. :uhoh3:

I agree! I felt guilty for not studying this weekend, but I know I needed a break. And I have been sick for over a week now. This crazy Chicago weather and all the stress from school has really got to me. :uhoh3: I do love school though and will kind of sad when I am done.

I agree as well!!!!!!!! I have been studying so hard for this class... and I have been doing great so far, I got a 102 0n the first test on cells and chemistry,a 97 on the second test and a 94 on my third test... my final is tomorrow,i have 3 tests!!!!! We have a bones/and tissues lab exam.... and a cummulative final on chapters 1-16 and a "post-test, which is too see what we learn, we took a pre-test the first day of class, the pre test counts for nothing but the post test is 5% of our grade.... im hoping to get an A in the class!!! wish me luck!!!!!!! i will be so happy when i dont have to study this weekend!!!! But we start A & P II on monday so i only get a break for a weekend!!!!!!! :uhoh3:

Wonderful, you'll get that A

I know what you guys are saying! I feel guilty taking time off and I feel guilty not taking time off! However, I really do think you need to decide to allow yourself to take time off and realize that you will be better prepared to studying after doing that.

I heard one girl today saying something about being excited that tomorrow was her day off from everything. I thought it was a great idea. One of my friends said must be nice and she can't do that until after finals and I said yeah, I do take time off occasionally but feel guilty the whole time.

Anyway, I'm really tired. The A&P got me boggled today ... just because people are starting to panic and worrying outloud and moving into hyper. I am just going forward doing what I have been doing and can't let myself be distracted by those people because they make me crazy. I wish people didn't focus on marks so much (personally, I don't think I am going to share what I get anymore). I also don't like the people floating around that latch onto our study group to step over our heads (like I get the feeling they are panicking so much about getting accepted to second year that they are starting to look around and size up the competition -- I don't like that kwim?). I LOVE to have extra people to study with as long as they are supportive and not always whining about how much there is to study and how hard the program is to get into.

It just got to me today.

We dissected sheep brains in class today. We were one of the last groups and wound up having to share ... again. Oh well, not a big deal but .. it contributed to my frustrated feeling today. Also not a big deal and I likely would have done the same thing myself, but a few slips of the knife and a lot of things get wrecked. LOL .. it was actually kind of funny.

Started the day with a headache and ending with one! Ah well. Sorry I'm a downer today! Here's a picture for a little humour .. Frodo, eat your heart out!
