  1. What does Penrose Hospital start nurses at?
  2. We have been notified that out hospital will be changing from having one hour before and after med due time to 30 minutes before and after to get meds passed. I am more than a little peeved about this, as I don't see how it will be physically possible with 5 pts, most meds due at 9:00 am but some at 8:00 , meds sprinkled here and there throughout the day. We have computerized charting, and all the bull crap we have to chart in there, and now all the extra med passing, it seems like more and more of my time is not with direct patient care. Most days are already too packed, since we also have hourly rounding. Agggh!
  3. I should have listened to you!
  4. I passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must say I am rather shocked!!
  5. I took mine this morning and just know I failed. I really felt I was not "in the zone" and have looked up 4 questions and got them wrong. It was really really horrible. I just don't think I answered one question right! I didn't get any delegation (except for a RN from a different floor) 1 med calc, at least 15 SATA, one drag and drop that I missed, some endocrine and meds that I wasn't sure of. It didn't seem as if the questions were necessarily hard, pretty basic stuff actually, but I couldn't think through the answers.
  6. I take mine July 10th at 10:30, and I could use a little bit of prayer please!
  7. One review book I am using is giving conflicting information, or I just don't understand, and any help would be appreciated. MRSA is droplet precautions, and according to Saunders, only gloves and gowns, but another book says you will also wear a mask also to avoid droplets on your nose..what will NCLEX want you to wear? Also, a question had someone coming into ER with sores on arm, positive for MRSA, and it was a SATA, and "place them in isolation" was not one of the correct answers? Don't MRSA's always go into isolation? Can they cohort? Finally, our hospital lists pertussis as airborne precautions, when it is droplet precautions? Does pertussis need to be in a negative pressure room? It just seems like our school did not really focus to much on this content, and it seems to be one that is tested heavily on.
  8. Hi, just wanted to add my two cents The good Lord willing, I will graduate in May. I have a 15 month old with severe disabilities and a seizure disorder. I also go through the guilt of thinking that I should be working him out..doing something for him instead of studying. But, if our family wants to have a better life, I need to get through school. It is very hard, we have 2 more children. Our special little boy is in the hospital right now. (He has spent at least 10 weeks of his life in the hospital.) He will probably need my nursing skills later in life, I know what little I do know have come in handy so far.
  9. I personally think nursing school is too much about the books and lectures, I would rather be in the hospital more learning more, getting hands on training. I don't see why they did away with the hospital degree programs. I would think that would be more effective. (I have also been told our community college program is much much harder than the local university)
  10. Does anyone give report at the bedside? Our hospital is starting this, and I just don't understand the point.
  11. If the doctor told you it was ok to give mylanta, why did you get your license suspended? I would think the most you would get would be an incident report, but to have your license suspended when the doctor said it was ok to give mylanta?
  12. Does anyone have any good websites for maternal child nursing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello. I have a baby girl in ICU, immunodepressed due to medication, on a ventilator, with a nasty pneumonia. She has been in ICU a week. The nurses here are great. They go out of their way to meet our needs. My only concern is lack of hand washing. Respiratory Techs, nurses and doctors will come in and look at baby without washing their hands. Some do wash their hands, some think grabbing gloves makes it all ok, some wear in gloves from lord knows where. Would the staff here think it rude of me to ask them to put a sign on my babies crib asking for all to wash their hands before touching her? I do not want to get on the "bad side" of the staff here, as they are so very nice and accommodating, and my little girls care is great in every other aspect.
  14. It is an hour's drive by interstate to Danville from Urbana. There is a good nursing school in Champaign, Parkland college. The program starts both fall and spring semesters, you do have to have good grades to get in. It would be alot closer for you.
  15. What traumatic event happened in the L&D room?
