COLORADO SPRINGS
Hi, I am currently working as an MED/SURG ICU nurse in Reno, NV. I am thinking about relocating to get closer to my parents. I have heard great things about Colorado Springs, but know little about the hospitals there? Any suggestions? I have been on some of the websites, and it appears there are job openings, is it really competitive? What is the cost of living there, can I live ok with one job, or do you normally get another job too?( I know it depends on your life style, but I thought I would ask) Thanks for your imput, Shawn

When to take CNA program?
I'd have say I would take it sooner than later, it's a pretty simple class. I too barely cracked the book. Although, I would caution, that being a CNA and nurse are not the same. But it will tell you if you are interest in the field. Both work very hard, but different responsiblities. Nursing there are so many other things you can do with an RN. I dont want to say you are more limited with a CNA, because may be there are things you can do that I am not aware of.

Wnc
They only start the program in the fall, and I have heard they are offering a BSN program, though I dont know that for sure. I have heard TMCC is tough, though none are a walk in the park, but TMCC has that rep. As for point, It changes from year to year. Get as many point as you can, 15 points is almost a sure thing. Anything less and its iffy... Good luck!

Wnc
I did all of my prereq. at WNC. I applied once, didnt get in. My advice is to be very carefull with the advisors. They are not in the nursing department, and we were told something different everytime we went in for "Advisement". My GPA was good enough to get in, but I was give bad advise, and I did not have ENG 102. They told me I had 15 points, and in reality, I only had 11. The cut off to get in was 12 points. If I would have taken 102 I would have got in this year. I was excepted into Great Basin College, so I went there. They took forty student the year I applied, and I have heard good things from my friends that are in the program. You do not have to have a 4.0 to get in, but I would not want to apply without atleast 2 or three A's in the science courses. Hope this helps! Beware of the advisement!

Northern Nevada
Hello! I will throw my hat in, I am not an RN yet, I am a second year student at Great Basin College in Elko! We heard a rumor that Orvis lost their creditidation? Is this true? I really hope not I know two, who should have graduated this May. I hope they are ok. Second, I saw a second of a news cast, are the Renown nurses striking? Sorry, to load one post with this stuff, but with nursing school, I have to make good use of my time. Hoping to be an RN and Renown next summer!

Renown Apprentiships?
Thats a major bummer! I was sooo excited about the possibility of working in the ICU, I could barely sleep! I miss that kind of work soooo much. I worked ER and in the ICU as an EMT and have been away too long. It would have been a good way to get my foot in the door at Renown. Thanks for the info

Renown Apprentiships?
Back in May I was called by Renown to come interview for an apprentiship in the ICU at Renown, I was so excited. The day before I was to interview, I had a message from them and the cancelled and said they were not going to have Apprentiships this summer, maybe August. Anyone know why or if they are infact going to have them this fall? I tried to call the number back they left but noone would ever answer. One of my friends actually made it to the ICU and the said, Sorry. Thanks Shawn
