Just had a girl with 102 temp crying because she wanted to stay in school. She has midterm review today and a basketball game tomorrow.

She was in earlier, afebrile, now with shaking chills. I'm suspecting flu.

A nice, sweet involved kid who never comes in. Parents are a pleasure.

Every little health-office-naive child who has a squirmy stomach ache, lies down for five minutes, then when asked how they're feeling, exclaims, "it doesn't even hurt anymore!" May the magic of H2O and a little rest never ever leave you...

My good kid story starts as a bad kid story.

This little kindergartner came to us as a truly wild child (rooms evacuated, biting people, pulling fire alarms, threw chairs around my office, etc). His parents are barely available and rarely answer their phone. I actually had to send him home the first day because he didn't have all of his immunizations and BOTH parents came in separately to scream at me about how I'm ruining his first day at school and how vaccines kill people. Both were not afraid to invade my personal space and thankfully my principal and SRO were close and were awesome supports.

Fast forward to today, after weeks of staff working one on one with him, He came in reporting pain from a recess injury. He followed directions, said thank you at least 5 times and went back with staff without a single problem. I almost cheered as he left.

I am happy about that awesome interaction, but I am worried about the road that child will face with those parents.

Yea, and was he threatened into compliance by his parents saying I'd BETTER not have to go back there.

it's a dark day, so I'm going there.

I am sure its going to be tough. He has an older sister who was a frequent of mine (now in middle school), but before this fall I assumed that they lived with Grandma because that is who I always talked to and who would come and get her when she was sick. Their grandmother is a WONDERFUL human, so thankfully he does have a positive influence in life that I still bet he sees more often than his parents.

I do think there is an underlying DD diagnosis with this little guy that the family might be in denial over, but him getting the help he needs here has made a difference.

I had a little one just clean up the cracker crumbs she left on my mat.

It's the little things sometimes. ?

I had a kinder with an all over body rash. While we were hanging out waiting for mom, he was telling me all about his brain scans. He has epilepsy and gets frequent EEGs. He told me that at the last one the doctor said "You must be learning a lot in Kindergarten because your brain is getting bigger!" which was adorable, but then I started coughing(fighting a cold) and he said "Wow! You sound sick, you should find a nurse to send you home too!" ? I wish!

One of my regulars came in with a cast around his arm. He proudly exclaimed that this was his 6th broken bone. He had a hand drawn thank you note with a dragon on it for me. I sent him out Friday because I was 99% sure it was broken or fractured despite him not crying and his teacher acting like I was crazy for thinking it was.

I'm at a junior high, so the kids can sometimes be harsh with their parents. One boy was resting in my office, but felt better. He said "I should call my mom- she's at a funeral, and I texted her earlier. I don't want her to rush to pick me up when I'm doing okay now." He left mom a brief voicemail, and ended it with "I love you, mom."

I have an 8-year old. I hope she still does that in 7th grade:)

My 13 year old tells me all the time... and when I tell her "I love you more" she says it's not possible. I hope it never changes!!

Kid in an ROTC uniform held the door after the fire drill today. It was legitimately freezing (for us anyway) and the side of the building I help monitor is all in shade. So the kid puts others before himself and holds a door for hundreds of students, and many don't even acknowledge. But I did!

Her: It hurts the back of my neck when I laugh!!!!

Me: So, don't laugh...

Her: I can't stop, I'm too happy!!!

I had a child call me mom. She was in 7th grade and likes to talk to me about issues. She went red like a tomato and I just said, "I love you too daughter." she laughed.

Another kid told me I'm like an older sister because she can come and talk to me about anything, and when I get married to invite her to my wedding. xD

Edit: Happy 100th post guys!
