Good Kids

Updated:   Published

Just had a girl with 102 temp crying because she wanted to stay in school. She has midterm review today and a basketball game tomorrow.

She was in earlier, afebrile, now with shaking chills. I'm suspecting flu.

A nice, sweet involved kid who never comes in. Parents are a pleasure.

Put your GOOD stories and Good kids right here.

One of the kids with issues had a meltdown at Dave and Buster's on the trip. One of the guidance counselors and I calmed him down to the point where he could open his eyes and talk. He wanted to be by himself for a bit after, so we sat at a table nearby.

After awhile, a girl and a boy came over and sat with him for the rest of the night. They talked gently and made him laugh. The girl gave him a Pikachu she had won playing games since he did not.

He was all smiles when we left.

I texted the kids' moms, one of whom is my best friend, and told them, without going int detail, how amazing their kids are.

It's teacher appreciation week, and each day the students were told to do something. Today was flowers.

I had a student who brought me two flowers, because I "teach AND fix people"

They announced my birthday on the intercom this morning (it was this past weekend). One of my daily med kids came up and gave me his phone number. When I asked what it was for he said "It's for your birthday!"

Well...okay. Thanks, bud! lol He's just the cutest.

The school I work at celebrates secretary and nurse's day together. I couldn't be in the day they celebrated unfortunately due to my husband's work schedule and him having to fly to Texas and we had no one to watch our kids. When I came back the next day, my desk was filled with home made cards from the younger grades, a few gift cards and a lot of baked goodies. Definitely felt the love and appreciation!! My favorites are when the children write a message if a time when I helped them. One boy poked his hand with a pencil this year and left a bit of a mark in his hand. On his card, he drew his hand with a hole in it with me placing a band aid on it. So sweet that these little guys remember all of this! I cried a lot that day.

Little Guy just popped in reporting that the side of his jaw hurt. Every time I tried to touch it, he began laughing like crazy because it "tickled too much". This went on for a few minutes until I told him since he could laugh so much it mustn't hurt that badly.

He looked at me and touched his jaw and exclamied "You fixed it! You're the best!" and scampered off

It was pretty darn cute.

I have a little one who made me a picture of a sick dragon who sneezes and has a paper towel in his hand so he can wash his hands in the sink (also pictured).

It's hanging proudly on my office fridge. ?

One more...I had a little guy walk in another student with a recess injury. He started to tell us a story about how he got to help his dad play with something that makes "wind storms" and that is "stronger than the biggest tornado!". I asked him what it was, thinking it was maybe on a video game.

And with all the dramatic bones in his little body he responded

"It was called...Leaf Blower"

The other student was visibly amazed.

:roflmao:

Guys, today one of my diabetic students brought me in a card for nurse's week and a $20 gift card to the local coffee shop she knows I love. Her mom is a nurse, but I suspect this was all her doing (she's in MS). I gave her the biggest hug ever!

We had a all school assembly to surprise our custodian who turned 50. I was a few mins late, so as I'm sneaking into the dark gym one of my Special Needs kiddos saw me and immediately started yelling and cheering with excitement, so everyone turned and began to clap...only to see me. lol

Thankfully our custodian was too far to hear so the surprise assembly went perfect.

And I'm just happy someone cheers when I enter a room. :)

I have a flip chart "Daily Mood" that has super cute moods like "Wonky" "Scattered" "Hunky-Dory" "Spent."

One of our Asperger's kid has taken it upon himself to change my moods when he sees I am away from my desk. Today I was in my office when he had his chance to change it. He said casually, "I wonder who has been changing your moods?" Playing along I said I have no idea. He said "I will do a full investigation and tell you who did it at the end of the year"

I am waiting with baited breath (after a mint of course!).

My good kid story starts as a bad kid story.

This little kindergartner came to us as a truly wild child (rooms evacuated, biting people, pulling fire alarms, threw chairs around my office, etc). His parents are barely available and rarely answer their phone. I actually had to send him home the first day because he didn't have all of his immunizations and BOTH parents came in separately to scream at me about how I'm ruining his first day at school and how vaccines kill people. Both were not afraid to invade my personal space and thankfully my principal and SRO were close and were awesome supports.

Fast forward to today, after weeks of staff working one on one with him, He came in reporting pain from a recess injury. He followed directions, said thank you at least 5 times and went back with staff without a single problem. I almost cheered as he left.
