Just had a girl with 102 temp crying because she wanted to stay in school. She has midterm review today and a basketball game tomorrow.
She was in earlier, afebrile, now with shaking chills. I'm suspecting flu.
A nice, sweet involved kid who never comes in. Parents are a pleasure.
Put your GOOD stories and Good kids right here.
Just yesterday, a little girl with downs saw me in the hallway. Immediately, she sat down in the chair next to the nurse's office doorway and said her ankle hurt. There was the *tiniest* scratch. I put a bandaid on to make it "all better". She got up and said, "You're the sweetest nurse," and skipped away.
Good kids come from good parents.
I have a student who is waiting for a lung transplant and on O2 who is just the coolest little girl. Two weeks ago when Noro hit our school, I called her mother to come and get her at the start of the day because I was 99% sure that it was Noro and I did NOT want her to be exposed.
Today I had an edible arrangement and a thank you note that was tear worthy waiting for me when I got back from my lunch break.
I had a special needs student throwing up everywhere in my office. The poor staff with him was trying her best to chase him with the trash can while I was on the phone getting screamed at by his mother for "discriminating against her son" for wanting to send him home.
During all this, one of my students who twisted her wrist in the morning came by for an ice pack. She saw the chaos and wrote on a piece of paper, "May I help myself" and made her own ice pack and went back to class.
One of my daily med cuties (2nd grader) asked me about my break after I asked him how his spring break was. I answered him, we talked about his recent doctor's visit, and then as he was pushing the door open to leave he paused and asked, "wait, I forgot to ask, how was your weekend???" And listened with the biggest smile before wishing me a good day too and heading back to class. (This is why I said I missed them all during my break I'm still new at this, so it's allowed!)
I have a few kids with braces who brush their teeth after lunch in my office. Today's debate in the bathroom was if "Charlie, Charlie" knows "Bloody Mary". After a large discussion, one student suggested doing the Bloody Mary ritual in my office bathroom and another immediately said "NO! We can't have ghost haunt Nurse Wine, she's my favorite person here!"
It's extra silly but it still made me smile.:)

We have 5 core values that the kids learn about in our school and today is "initiate kindness" day.
I had two kids drop off thank you cards in my office that they made for me in class ?
One even drew me (on the phone with a bandaid in my hand...which is pretty darn accurate lol)
Made my entire day
