I am starting Chem II this semester. Anyone want to start a club???
i hate chemistry!!!!!!!!!! :angryfire :angryfire
this is my second attempt at chemistry, and i still dont understand it. could someone please tell me if there are any chemistry help websites, or offer me words of advice on how to pass chem? if so, i would greatly appreciate it. im stuck on unit analysis/unit factor problems.
a dermatology patient is treated with ulraviolet light having a wavelength of 375 nm. what is the wavelength expressed in centimeters?
so the answer in the back of the book is 0.0000375cm, but i dont know what was done to come up with the answer:uhoh3: :uhoh3:
thanks
the chem hater
Remember 375 nm is the same as 375.0. The decimal point is crucial!! On the metric ruler, nm is 10^-9 and cm is 10^-2. SO in order to go from nm to cm you need to go 7 left. This means, move your decimal seven places left. so with 375.0 go seven left to .0000375 (see how you have a total of 7 numbers after moving the decimal point? the decimal point has now moved.
Use the metric ruler table! if your instructor hasn't provided you one, go to http://education.yahoo.com/reference/encyclopedia/entry/metricTABLE
we had to memorize this table so do your best at finding some mnemonic for it!
:paw: i have almost finished two quarters of chemistry, and it is hard work and lots of study time. i had great teachers who really helped out. i have uselfull tools for chemistry classes. if you are taking chemistry for the first time also use website www.chemfiesta.com
great for moles/molarity/word problems/nonmenclature, etc. i have helpful powerpoints for alkanes, alkenes, all the functional groups. good luck with chemistry, it really isn't that bad!
Hey!! I'll join also... I have chem again next semester- certainly not looking forward to it as chem 1 was complete hell.ah well- hola to everyone!
I dragged myself through Chem I last semester. I had it with nutrition, which I think was a mistake. Got burned out between the two classes. I should have taken an intro to chem class because the concepts were just too much to get my mind around. Also have a tendency towards ADD so I r-e-a-l-l-y had to concentrate and focus. I'm taking the intro class next semester to try to come at it from a different angle.

I would like to join the group. I am taking Chem 101 this summer June 5, 2006. I took Chem last semester although my teacher would call on people for answers and I would be completly clueless because he just didn't teach well not to mention English was his second language so one had to really listen to hear what he was saying. I would ask quiestions in lab and he would be so rude as if he thought I was dumb or something. The main portion of Chem that I wasn't able to grasp was naming formulas which at our community we have to get a 90% on the Naming Formulas test to pass the course. Anyways, I hope to do well this semester coming up. I will need all the support!
