I am starting Chem II this semester. Anyone want to start a club??? :rolleyes:

I also have to take A&P 1 and 2. Please tell me it will be a little easier than this. I know that the nursing program is pretty rigorous. Please tell me I won't experience this type of studying/exhausting tiredness for the next 3yrs...lol.

Hi Stacy -

It depends on what kind of learner you are. A&P is different because it's partly a lot of memorization of the anatomy. It's also understanding how parts of the body works. I would make sure I understood the concepts, but then read and reread my notes to memorize everything.

Have you tried notecards. It not only works to memorize vocabulary, but also for chemistry. What our instructor has us do is put half of the chemical equation on the front and the result of the equation on the back. I carry around my notecards everywhere to review.

I think part of my challenge lies with the math. It's taken me about 3 weeks to figure out Stiochiometry...lol. I spent SOOooo much time trying to figure it out and now that I finally get it, I'm like "Duh!"

How much math is involved in A&P? I do well with memorization for the most part. I haven't figured out away to incorporate flash cards in Chemistry that works well for me yet.

Don't remember any math at all. Though there was a little math in microbiology.

As for flashcards, one of the things my instructor said is to make sure that there is a question to answer on both sides of the card. Like one side might have a term and the other side will have chemical formula or definition. For chemical reaction equations the first sides question would be what is the results and the other side would be what are the catalysts or a particular name for the equation. Sorry I can't give you a specific example, becuase I'm taking Organic/Biochemistry right now and don't remember my basic Chemistry. It has been almost 8 years.

Another thing I do is I make a cheat sheet. I try to cram everything I need to know on one or two sheets of paper. It helps me becuase it makes me feel less overwhelmed. It also helps when you find some kind of organization for the info you need to memorize. That way you can find what's in common and what's different for a list of things you need to memorize.

Hey!! I am also taking Chemistry II this semester and I am terrified. I took Chemistry I two semesters ago and I am currently reviewing everything because I start class tomorrow. I am horrible at chemistry even though I try my hardest and I know that it is a terrible attitude to have, but Chemistry= #1 fear. I hope that I have the strength to go through with it and not give up. Good luck to everyone who is taking a a class that is challenging to you, whether it is chemistry or some other class.

Don't give up do the best that you can. Im taking chem I now and it is difficult for me also. someone told me that the best way to get an understanding is to tackle as many problems as you can. Im taking chem II this summer if everything goes well with this semester.

My professor non chalantly eluded to the fact some chem exam questions may have 'distracters'...........Look at this problem. (stoichiometry)

How many moles of CO2 can be produced by the complete combustion of 3.1 moles C2H6?

2 C2H6 + 7 O2 -------------> 4 CO2 + 6 H2O

Is the term complete combustion a distracter? Because it definitely distracts me! The actual working out of the problem has nothing do to with wether it a complete combustion or not,.............because similar problems will say complete reaction or complete combustion or just 'reaction'

But I'll look at it initially and go 'complete combustion'? now what does that change?

Don't look too much into it

set up the DA. 5.63 moles Ca(....) times 3 moles H per 1 mole Ca(...) times 6.02 X 10^23 H atoms per 1 mole H. Just cancel on the DA and you will end up with the number of H atoms.

Just do it the way you always have. I mean you have the number of moles just set up the ratio because you're still producing something right?
