Would you take this job?

Nurses Career Support

Published

2 days week (12 hr shifts), some flexibility in the 2 days (nurses self schedule) so 8

days/month total - could work more if wanted, average salary 55K/yr., limited benefits.

Drive time about an hour give or take if traffic/bad weather. Hospital type setting but not

locate in the main campus.

My coworker thinks I'm "nuts" for taking a 12 hr position where I would have to drive an

hour or a little over one way but for the salary and it being part time..I think it would be

worth the early a.m. 2x wk and more time off..right now I work M-F 8-5, my salary is

higher where I am now but I hardly see my spouse and feel like I run through the days..

am I not seeing something with this part time job offer?

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

Part-time when you don't have to work full-time, decent salary, self-scheduling? Sounds good there. I wouldn't love the commute time either, but if it's worth it to YOU and your spouse then that's what matters.

The commute sounds yucky but the rest sounds awesome.

I wouldn't do an hour commute for a 5 day per week job, but 2 days would be worth it. Think about it this way - 2hrs/dayx2 days/week = 4 hrs commuting each week. If you'd like the job, I think it's worth it.

Benefits the same, or not a concern if you're covered via spouse employer? Go for it. (Note: many, many employers have for years wanted to cut spouse coverage and now their numbers are growing, so find out whether his HR would be charging extra to add you on. BTW, this has nothing to do c Obamacare regs whatsoever.)

Sounds like a good deal to me :)

I commute more than an hour each way for a 5x/week, M-F job. Pay and benefits make it worth it to me; one person's crazy commute is another person's "Me Time" :)

I wouldn't take a job that would require getting up at 0200, but the rest of it sounds pretty good for a two day a week gig. If you think it would work for you and your family, I would take it.

I would hate the commute but 2 days a week sound AMAZING!!!!! I would take it in a heart beat !!!!

Specializes in LTC, med/surg, hospice.

Take it before someone else does lol.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I would definitely take it! An hour commute each way for a 12 hour shift is worthwhile, IMO. Utilize that time to listen to books on CD or catch up on phone calls (Bluetooth!). Commuting can be what you make of it. :)

Sounds too good to be true. If you don't take it, I think I will!
