Who are these "know it all" nurses that frequent this forum? Are you here just to drive me crazy? I hate that we are no longer allowed to vent about our bad day or complain about annoying patients. Heaven forbid we say something negative or we will be labeled as "heartless" and "unprofessional." Are these people who know everything really nurses? Do they really deal with the public day in and day out like I do?

Sometimes patients need to be put in their place. That doesn't make me a bad nurse for telling them so. Yes I do have negative thoughts about my non compliant patient who doesn't have insurance and frequents my hospital 4 times a week for the same thing. Yes, getting your prescription filled and taking your medicine would save everyone a lot of time and headache... Whoops maybe I shouldn't have said that... that makes me a "complainer" and "uncaring." I guess I AM "what is wrong with nursing today."

And heaven forbid I wear my Tom and Jerry scrub top to work.. That makes me "brainless."

I bet now I will be labeled "cruel" or "harsh" for starting this "hateful" thread.

Oh and I better not use too many smileys!! :uhoh3:

Can't we just let it go away... please? You are just as entitled to your opinion as everyone else.

Heh. Most of the seasoned nurses don't respond that way.

my thoughts on this is that this is your forum too. if you need to vent about a bad day, or pain in the a$$ pts without violating the pts trust or confidencialty then go ahead. if someone doesnt like what you have to say, then they dont have to read it. that is the beauty about freedom of speech. and the people who think they know it all, they will learn their lesson sometime, hopefully no one dies from their mistakes. and keep wearing the printed scrubs, its not the people on this forum that you have to please.

Yes you are. And I think it's great that this place exists for nurses, nursing students and even pre-nursing students to come to for advice or just for a rant. It has probably helped a lot of people from going crazy. It's too bad there are some bitter ones on here, but I do find for the most part that everyone is very supportive and I know this forum will definitely help get me through nursing school when the going gets tough. It's one place you can come where there's at least one person reading who has been there and can tell you how they coped. I think it's better just to disregard the buzz killers, and keep getting whatever it is off your chest.

There are nurses who wear street clothes to work and they set a very high standard for how to be the perfect nurse. There are nurses who work the floor and they try hard to be perfect but mostly they try hard just to get it all done. This is a great site for getting information, and venting. What's that golden rule? Oh yeah "If you can't say something nice to someone don't say it at all".

I agree with the OP, some of these patients are the devil out of hell!! I was hit by a wash rag once and the patient's daughter told me that the patient thought it was her maid. *****:madface::madface::madface::madface: I was so damn mad but I could not show it for fearing I would fail my clinical.

Yeah you are pretty much right. It seems to me people who ask some legitimate questions have few responses whereas you post a thread about pay everyone answers. If you come just to vent it will turn negative by someone. Post a neutral topic and someone will hijack it,and take it personally(happened to me so many times) All I asked one time if its possible for an lpn to make more money than an rn and it quickly turned to an "rn vs lpn" thread with bitter people responding as if I work with them and know them personally. Almost made me cry,the things they were saying. Oh,and those same threads that keep getting posted over and over again, such as "shall I go for rn or lpn? And "adn vs bsn?" as if they are beating a dead horse.

I ve began reading these threads back in 2004 and it wasn't this bad(aggressive like) until about 2 years ago. Anybody agree with me it seems to have gotten worse?

Yes, I must agree! I feel the pressure at work more now than a few years ago, and thus my negative rantings. I don't like it, but its like a bit of therapy to get on here and read and comment on such irritating issues that only nurses would understand! My hubby and family looks at me like I make this stuff up! :uhoh3:

Agree that it seems folks don't use the search function much. See so many of the same questions posted ad nauseum. Hmmm 4 of zofran perhaps?

And not for nuthin, but I thought one of the primary purposes of allnurses was to provide a place where we could vent to us. People who understand what day to day nursing entails, from med-surg to the unit to the er to management, etc.

So, if you want to rant, let it rip. And to those who object, well I've got 2 words and they aren't "happy birthday".
