Hello, guys!

What can you say about Instructors having intimate (serious) relationships with their students?

If you are his/her Dean, would you condone or approve such? What if the feelings are realyy true and pure? They really love one another? What can you suggest or advise them?

I'd say keep the pants and hormones in check until AFTER they are no longer teacher-student. If it really is love then it shouldn't be that big of a thing to do.

If i were another student in that class and found out what was going on, i'd have a serious problem with it. How would i know that there isn't favortism going on?

Teachers dating students, no problem if the student isn't in their class.

(by that i mean over 18 years of age of course)

I believe ANY situation which involves conflict of interest is disturbing. How can the instructor evaluate the student fairly if a romantic involvement exists between the two parties?

Should a student date their instructor? Should an employee date their boss? Perception becomes reality for so many people that it is generally a good idea to avoid appearances that can be problematic.

Of course feelings of love and can conflict with common sense so one must be careful. And then there are those situations where people in positions of power take advantage of subordinates. What one person might confuse to be love is just plain old-fashioned lust for the other.

Just observations from many years in academia and multiple work settings. Good luck in addressing this situation in whatever capacity comes your way.

Inappropriate. I can't imagine a professor with a shred of ethics participating in such a relationship.

I think it's fine as long as there's an older woman involved...

Just kidding :chuckle

I think that the relationship should be put on hold until the classes are over.

Highly inappropiate and shouldnt happen, the student should be expelled and the instructor should be fired immediately for that kind of behaviour.

Yes, I completely agree.

And the thought about "they really love one another"? Phooey!! If you "love" someone you want the best for them and putting someone in this unethical position is not the best. It is completely selfish, which is not love.

Hmmm counting me that is a 100% no vote!

No where no way no how

A relationship between teacher and studen compromises not just the two involved but the entire class.
