Let's give nurses a break: How do the rest of the staff dress?

I've seen about a million (:D) threads about unprofessionally dressed nurses with cartoony, low riding, see through, pajama like, tight, ill fitting etc. etc. scrubs. I think we all know of someone who fits in that category.

How about the other health staff? What has made you go:

:lol2:

:uhoh3:

I know a surgeon that likes to make his rounds wearing the tighest workout gear you can imagine - how can I tastefully say this - I wouldn't have to ask him to take his clothes off if I wanted to do a thorough head to toe assessment!

I don't know how he gets away with it - I wouldn't let me cut my toenail wearing that outfit nevermind my body!

I've seen women wearing a pants-suit, which is very professional.

However, the extremely lowcut top underneath the suit changes everything.

Specializes in L&D, PACU.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but one of our surgeons wears his scrub pants a bit loose. One day in surgery they fell to the floor. They stayed in a puddle around his ankles until he finished surgery.

Hopefully he had underwear on!

I once saw my manager and my director--serious, professional women--giggling like schoolgirls when one of our aides bent over and exposed her whale tail. I have no doubt one or both later counselled her privately on professional attire, but at that moment, I loved them for giggling.

Specializes in ER.

Jogging pants and flipflops- one of our secretaries regularly comes in like that.

Nursing supervisor wearing bare feet and sandals to work (think flip flops with heel strap). No wonder they don't want to jump in and help us when we're short.

Oiy! One of the docs on our floor wears his scrub pants an entire size too small, pulls them up to somewhere in the vicinity of his nipples, and tops it off by tucking in his scrub top.

High waters and.....well, an uncomfortable looking accentuation of the male anatomy. It instantly turns all nurses to giggeling 7 year old girls the second he walks away.

Specializes in LTC, Memory loss, PDN.

I once had an interview with an administrator of an assisted living facility. The facility was nice enough and about 30 min. closer to home than my present job. The pay was less, so it was a toss off. The deciding factor was the admins attire.

She was a heavy chested woman and obviously into showcasing. Nice view :D, but I just couldn't help thinking what else would be inappropriate and wrong about this facility and declined the job offer.

Specializes in Med-Surg and Ambulatory Care (multispecialty).

I currently work as a unit secretary (while anxiously awaiting my first semester this fall as a nursing student). I wear khakis or black pants with a short sleeve polo top and converse sneakers. Most of the other secretaries dress similarly (the older ones tend to dress up a little more). But I have seen a few come in like they stopped at work on their way to the gym or grocery store. I know I dress for comfort since I work on such a busy floor but come on now.

The docs and administration are pretty professionally dressed (shirt and tie or dresses and pantsuits for ladies).

Specializes in psych, addictions, hospice, education.

picture flannel pj's that have been slept in...
