Let's give nurses a break: How do the rest of the staff dress?

Nurses General Nursing

I've seen about a million (:D) threads about unprofessionally dressed nurses with cartoony, low riding, see through, pajama like, tight, ill fitting etc. etc. scrubs. I think we all know of someone who fits in that category.

How about the other health staff? What has made you go:

:lol2:

:uhoh3:

I know a surgeon that likes to make his rounds wearing the tighest workout gear you can imagine - how can I tastefully say this - I wouldn't have to ask him to take his clothes off if I wanted to do a thorough head to toe assessment!

I don't know how he gets away with it - I wouldn't let me cut my toenail wearing that outfit nevermind my body!

Oh I've got tons.

I was an LVN at a locked alzheimers unit, and this one girl showed up to apply for an aide position in her pajamas...with fuzzy slippers on.

Today, waiting for an interview, a guy showed up in socks with sandals, workout pants, and a janitor shirt to inquire about janitor positions. Also, his wife or whoever it was who drove him sat in the hr office licking a lollipop very loudly, tongue out and all.

Even when I was applying at burger king at 16 I dressed in dress pants and a dress shirt...

This one doctor... she would have looked great if she had been going out that night, but a shorter dress, patterned tights and 3+ inch pumps just looked a bit ridiculous under her white coat. Especially when she was attempting to keep her balance while squatting down to check some pt's oozing, necrotic leg wound...

Oh, and one other doctor... I didn't even know she was a doctor for the longest time because she dressed so sloppily. Cartoonish t-shirts (including ones that stuff hanging off the shirt, like cloth tongues on the cartoon character, etc), ill-fitting pants, and oh-my-word her hair. It looked she hadn't brushed it in weeks... always sticking WAY up and off to one side in a mass of tangles, looking like some crazy lady.

And this one aide... she had, um, gained a bit of weight and I guess did not get some new scrub pants... yeah, they split right down the middle one day. Poor girl. She was able to laugh about it, but I felt so bad for her!!!

Do those people really want a job? Makes me wonder.

This wasn't when I was in the field, but I will never forget it. When I was in labor and transitioning into the pushing phase with my first kid, a man walked into the room to talk to one of the many people in the room. This was a naval hospital where apparently privacy isn't allowed. Anyway, man walks in, just got back from his jog. He had sweats on with a huge sweat area on the chest and under the arms. He walks in and is catching up with a doc there. He was a fellow doc. I freaked out because I had no idea who he was and dressed like that I assumed he was some every day person that came to visit the doc. maybe a patient. I just couldn't believe the "professionalism".

As a student I saw a doc that I wanted to call Mr. Chip and Dale. I pictured 70's Media music playing anytime he walked into a room. He had an ego the size of texas and wore this black leather vest on top of a white button down shirt and he had the shirt unbuttoned like 4 buttons so that a lot of his chest was showing. He just needed a black bow tie.
