Grossing out my Hubby

I must confess I don't know why I do this but whenever my husband and I have dinner I decide to share what I thought was funny or interesting and he considers gross, such as a patient with massive diarrhea, or a good GI bleed story. Why can't husbands see the humor that we do in such cases? You would think after so many years of sharing he would be used to it, I just can't seem to stop myself, mabey it is the funny faces he makes that cracks me up. Oh well, anyone else do this?

I usually warn my hubby with, "You're gonna love this, it's a really gross story....you up to it??"

Sometimes he'll think it's hilarious, like when he came into the room where I was reading the "Good Poop story" thread. Other times, I just censor the stuff I know would disturb him.

I think he puts up with it because he knows I need to vent, and my nursie stories are way more interesting than my CNA stories.... :lol2:

I have a sister who is also a nurse. My aunt was a nurse years ago. Two of her son's are in the health care field. Thanksgiving Dinner is usually very interesting!!! Also helps you get a seat in a crowded restaraunt! Just start talking about that rectal tube that shot crap 6 feet across the room...amazing how the place just kinda empties out. Check out a couple of threads: what grosses you out, what freaks you out and what is the freakiest thing you have ever seen. Some real classics on those, for the sick of mind like us!!!!

I've done that too. Look up and see three people just staring at me drop-jawwed. Actually, it has to be pretty bad now for my husband to even bat an eye, but the kids responses are priceless (they are teenagers.)

My hubby is pretty immune to it all now. He prefers stories about unbelievable PIA patients and visitors.

But when me and my 2 best nurse friends get together over lunch... I know what you mean about clearing a place out!

I prefer not to torture my dh with stories like that. Instead,he gets to hear about the more interesting and unusual patients who darken our doorways and the interesting deliveries we do. He just does not want to talk poop and guts...don't blame him. I wouldn't either were I a non-medical type.

Love to go out with one particular nurse friend and her dh. We can GET GOING and our husbands groan and look green, but they enjoy the "I can't believe it" quality of REAL LIFE! Oh do we laugh!

DH stands for dear hubby, just like you figured, l.rae! A+++ for you! :kiss :chuckle

As for talking gross during a meal, I'm married to a nurse so we talk about anything and everything during a meal. Now, he can gross me out before I gross him out because he is in the military and has seen some pretty gross stuff, and loves to emphasize it, too. I have to admit, some of what he can share has a tendency to make me wanna upchuck. Now, when I'm eating lobster or king crab legs, he is NOT allowed to tell gross stories because I do NOT want my crustacean (sp?) meal spoiled. I just want to suckle the heck out of my lobster and crab legs with all the melted butter dripping on it as I savor every single bite. Yummmmm-yum! ;) :chuckle

My s/o and me have a rule ... no gross talk at the dinner table. That mean BOTH me and him. Not that he can't handle it. Anyways, I never make it that long to talking to him about something interesting or gross!

My husband is pretty much immune to anything I have to say... grew up in farm country and his first wife is also a Nurse...he got to enjoy Nursing school with her.

I, the nurse, can not gross out my wife. She used to be a nursing assistant many moons ago. Now, she works for a gastroentereologist. So we both can have fairly boring conversations about large bloody BM's, long strings of green snot, and multi-colored emesis.

What tickles our fancy is putting this stuff to music. Imagine a song about enemas.

(. . . and getting paid to sing it!!)

Actually, my wife has grossed me out with some of the things the GI doctor (that she works for) has pulled out in the past during colonoscopies!

. . . some pretty wierd stuff!!
