Grrr - MCCDNP Wait list

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi all!

So the MCCDNP site says "Spring capacities choice change options should become available late in September."

Well, I called today to see when they are expecting to release the choice options because it's already getting pretty late in September - they told me late OCTOBER! :banghead:

Pushing back the date and picking 2 months before nursing school starts seems a little unprepared and unorganized to me.

Hi AZSamantha! I've also been waiting since June 2007. I sure hope we get in this round. It has been very hard waiting. I had no idea it would be this long.

I am currently a block II student at SCC. I like it. Just curious, how many are actually on the waiting list. We heard around 2000, is that correct? I signed up in Oct of 07 and start block I in Jan of 08. I was 846 when I signed up, but there were 1400 when I actually got in. Also, my advice to all of you guys is to take Patho while you are waiting. It is not a pre-req any more and a lot of people in my class did not have to take it. They wish they would have. It was a pre-req for me. Good luck to all of you guys

Hey Wimpy. Did you apply in October 2007 or was that when you got your acceptance letter? I applied in June '07 and I am not sure how many people were on the waiting list then - but I do know that they are cutting the prereqs down and people are applying a lot sooner.

Also, as of right now there are 2165 people on the waiting list.

I applied in Oct 06, got the acceptance letter in Oct of 07. When I applied, they told me that it would be a year wait. I had a lot more pre-req, and it is a shame that some of them are not needed now. I would still take them as you are waiting, like I mentioned Patho, make sure that you keep up on A&P (or is it not required).

I think they lowered the pre-reqs so that you can get on the waitlist, while also knowing it is a year or two of a wait you still have time to complete the now co-reqs to keep on track. That way you only have the nursing core classes while in the offical program? Concentrating on those should help boost NCLEX pass rates. IMO & :twocents: . Well at least that makes sense to me. Perhaps even add a few extra classes, like the pathophys & medical spanish if the wait drags on.

i don't know about you guys but i am so ready for oct. 21st! only 7 days away...good luck to everyone waiting to get in! i know i am ready...i've been waiting since june'07 as well! such a long time...but i know it will be worth the wait!

I am so upset. I was looking at the application status website and it now says that SCC only has 10 openings to the public - Not the 40 they had last week!!

It sucks because my two top picks were SCC (which now only have 10 spots) and PVCC (which only has 10).

I cannot believe how limited these spots are ~ I called the district office and they said they were originally expecting more people to get in but they aren't even sure in the late-June applicants will get in. (He pretty much told me I can kiss my top choices good-bye).

I am more upset that I have been waiting 16 months, and if I don't get in January, that will push me back to August, adding almost another year to my wait!

:banghead:

I am so sorry... ya SCC is my second choice and I was shocked today when I noticed there were only 10 spots! I knew there had to be more before or I would've noticed that! Well I really hope you get in for January... you have definitely done your time waiting... I've been on the wait list for exactly a year now, but I'm not getting too hopeful for getting in for the spring (even though they told me when I applied it'd be 1-2 semesters... haha funny.)

I completely understand your frustration. I was looking at the website today and realized that they have lowered the prereqs even more for prospective students. They are now only requiring 5 classes as prereqs and everything else can be taken as a coreq while you are in the program. The coreqs include anatomy 202, microbiology (Bio 205)--Both must be taken before block 3 of the program--English 101 and 102, and Critical reading have to be taken by block 4. I'm not quite sure why they would allow someone to go all the way to block 4 of the nursing program without passing out of reading first. This just doesn't make sense. As a student that's already been on the waiting list for a year and a half I just feel like Maricopa is trying to rake in as much money as they can in enrollment and not worrying about the success of the students.

:banghead: I am sorry AZSamantha... that is really lame. It is really not fair. I hope you get your choices none the less. I felt the same way, but just had to face the facts... I was not going to get in anytime soon if I didn't put down the 4-semester choices and realize that the accelerated options or locations closer to me are going to be "sopped up" before the less desireable ones. I want this bad enough to eat that kind of dirt for a while I guess. It will make this much more difficult for me and my family, but the rewards will certainly reap tmeselves when this is all said and done. Y'know? I just tell myself everyday, that no one is taking this away from me. No one...

Lydia, I completely agree with you. I too worked really hard to get all of those classes done just to submit my application. I had to work to wait... it makes no sense. I work at a university right now (whose name I would prefer to keep anonymous- but it not a trade school... :stone) but I can tell you that the low level of adult literacy is shocking. I have read an essay from a PhD (yes, you read that right... PhD) student and wanted to scream. This is the case everywhere... and my theory is, if you cannot write properly, you aren't Speed Racer with a textbook either. There are so many of us who could been placed by now if that was the case. The state needs to revisit it's program requirements and how they work with clinical sites, etc. The left hand is not fully aware of what the right hand is doing. Then the trade schools are taking up cliinical sites as well which makes it tough for all as well... I know that Apollo, Ethel Bauer, Everest, and whoever else are not known for their high standards of academic excellence. Sorry had to vent. Hey look at the bright side, people are being placed today, and then again in 10 days from now. We all might still be one of those people. I wish everyone the best of luck!
