Grrr - MCCDNP Wait list

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi all!

So the MCCDNP site says "Spring capacities choice change options should become available late in September."

Well, I called today to see when they are expecting to release the choice options because it's already getting pretty late in September - they told me late OCTOBER! :banghead:

Pushing back the date and picking 2 months before nursing school starts seems a little unprepared and unorganized to me.

This is at least the 4th time I've seen a post regarding problems with RN's (everything from lacking clinical skills to inability to find jobs due to the perception of not being a good enough nurse) coming from RIO's program. Are these just rumors or can anyone list something more specific? I have RIO down as my third choice, but I don't want to do something I'll regret. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey AZ samantha! I am in the same exact boat as you...my timestamp is June 19 '07 and I am STILL nervous after reviewing the new program choices that I may not get in yet again! Ugh this is so stressful. :eek:Also my first choices were SCC traditional and SCC accelerated, and I think its really too bad that they aren't offering any SCC accelerated spots to the public! :(I just am really hoping to get in for Spring '09...I guess we will find out soon enough (Oct. 21-yikes!)

Good luck to you and I'm really glad I found this website today to see that I am not the only one in this unfortunate situation....but I wish none of us had to be in it at all!

Hey AliCat13!

We are in the same boat! lol

I'm starting to freak out because I really only want to go to SCC - And it doesn't help that I live in East Scottsdale (really far from other schools).

Are you going to just choose SCC or pick other schools too?

Hey Gilbert-Girl

Yes, I've heard some pretty scary things about the Rio Grads. My friend just graduated nursing school last December. When she was doing her clinical rotations, as well as her preceptorship the nurses were asking what school she went to and saying telling her about the stigma with the online nurse grads from Rio. I've also seen some posts on allnurses regarding the Rio grads not finding jobs. I understand what you mean--I had my heart set on Rio, and honestly all this info could be just a rumor, but I do not want to take a chances with my education or my future career. Hope that helped.:p

Just a suggestion...

Why don't you call human resources of the hospitals you may be interested in working at and talk to them about it.

Hey AZsamantha, I really only want to go to SCC as well!! I live about 5 min from that school! But I still picked 5 choices cause at this point I would be really happy with my top 3...the last two not so much! I really wanted the accelerated one at SCC the most though. I miss that choice!

Alicat13,

Hey! Thats cool that you live so close to SCC. I live right near Scottsdale Healthcare (Shea) so it would be awesome if I got into SCC.

I can't wait til the 21st!!!!!

As far as what school you go to dosn't really matter as to if you can find a job or not. New grads from all the schools are having a hard time finding work. There may be nursing shortage, but there is a nursing shortage of experienced nurses not new grads. There seems to actually be an overabundance of new grads out there right now with all the new programs in the last few yrs pumping out new grads left and right. I graduated from scc, over 2 months ago and got my RN over a month ago and still havn't even had one call from any hospitals, long term care centers or anywhere in fact. It seems that the hospitals, and most other places only hire so many if they will even take them. I even went to a nursing career fair and almost every companys there said they dont hire new grads and if they do they only do so from employees within the company already. Which is pretty frustrating when you think as soon as your done with school you'll find a job no problem. So just to warn all you out there to get a job as a extern or cna or anything at the hospital while your in school so that way your guaranteed a job when your done and not stuck in an endless search like I am.

I know someone who got her first choice (Gateway accelerated) in the later admission rounds after people who were selected deferred admission. --I am choosing five schools, too, but I am really hoping for my first two choices. In some ways, I hope that I will miss the first round of admissions and get my first or second choice. (I estimate that there are about 180 people ahead of me.) I think it more likely that I will get my first choices via someone else's deferral. If I hadn't waited so long (nearly 1.5 years), I might be more willing to risk just listing my top two choices.

Pkkostura - your post is worrisome. I don't think there is a real nursing shortage. I think there is a shortage of experienced American RNs willing to work for certain pay levels and under certain conditions. I think that new grads and workers on visas are driving down the wages.

Ah well. RN wages are still better than many other options and they offer great flexibility (enter other areas, e.g., pharmaceutical sales). I wonder if you will find hiring picks up around now with the return of the snowbirds. Good luck!

:up:My time stamp is 10/22/2007 at 08:03:02AM. Do you all think I have a shot? My choices are as follows in this order:

1) Phoenix College Accelerated (27 slots)

2) Gateway CC/ Part-Time (34 slots)

3) Glendale CC 4 Semester Traditional (40 slots)

4) Mesa CC/ Boswell (45 slots)

5) Phoenix College 4 Semester Traditional (45 slots)

That is 191 seats available, and that does not include deferring students. I actually think there might be more students who defer than ususal since the economy stinks, and no one wants to give/ take out loans.

I have tried BNFP 3 times and have not even been invited in for an interview. :banghead: So, I am just going to go for it.

Anyone? Thoughts...? :specs:

Boogsdad,

You and I have identical time stamps. And I've also tried BFNP 3x's without an interview. My choices are a bit different. But hopefully you are right about students on the list not wanting to stop working or take loans for NS like we are. Also, read Sonoran's post about the second or third rounds of placement. I think since we are at the bottom of this go round, we have a shot at our first preferrences after the first draft people decline their spots. Right now, I am just having faith that I will be placed where I'm supposed to be!!

Hey Sonoran!

I am feeling like you too - Personally, I am hesistant to choose 5 programs because I really only want into SCC's program. I feel like I would have a better chance getting in if someone defers but I'm not sure if I want to take the risk. I have been waiting since June '07 and I don't want to wait anymore.
