TO ALL PHOENIX COLLEGE ACCELERATED Studens
I am in desperate need to know what the schedules look like for PC. Lecture?? Clinicals?? I got accepted into block one at a different school, but my hope is to transfer into the accelerated program next semester. Can any current accelerated students give me any info? What about the non-accelerated program at PC?? Is the clinical schedule chaotic. I do have to work so I need a fairly consistent (well...as consistent as nursing school can get:wink2:) schedule to work around however, I've taken all my prereqs at PC and I just feel more comfortable there. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Completely frustrated w/ MCCDNP
Thank you so much this is excellent information and definately encouraging to know. Its so funny I called the MCCDNP main office number and they basically told me too bad so sad about the possibility of becoming an LPN while in Nursing School. I'm glad we have this forum, so we can all help each other out:yeah:. Thanks Again!

BIO 202 online through Phoenix College
Hi chihmom8, If I were you I don't think I would completely take the class over again. You can probably re-read the material and get some addtl resources, (books, online journals etc) that will go into more depth on the topics you're unsure of. But I have actually taken Bio202 online at Phoenix College. I had an extraordinary instructor and I actually feel like I learned more online in 202 then I did when I took 201 in person the prior semester. I would in no way describe the class as easy. All the tests were timed, and there was a lot of reading, homework, discussion etc. But the instructor was very knowledgeable and did a great job getting the class to think "beyond the book". If you are dead set on retaking the course I would highly recommend PC's online 202 course. Hope that helps! :wink2:

Completely frustrated w/ MCCDNP
I just got accepted into the spring semester Nursing program after three semesters on the wait list. I used the time that I was waiting to build up enough money for cushion to allow me to get me through the first two blocks of the program. I planned after Block II to apply for licensure as an LPN and work registry around my classes through Blocks 3+4 (which is what all my friends did to financially support themselves through the last half of the program). Much to my dismay, I just learned that nursing students are no longer allowed to apply for an LPN after Block II Which was never announced on the waiting list website. If I'd have known I would have went a totally different route and went to Gateway's LPN program first. I work an 8-5 Mon-Fri job and unfortunately I live on my own and cannot afford to pay all my living expenses on $12p/hr which is what the entry level hospital positions are offering. Are there any current nursing students out there that have heard anything about how to get an LPN while in nursing school?

Mesa CC/Boswell Nursing Option
Hi Sweetsmuckers-- Hope all is well. I just got accepted into Mesa Boswell for Spring 09:yeah:. And I would love to know how you're feeling about the program so far. How are the instructors? Is the curriculum overwhelming? About how much time do you spend outside of class studying? Also I was looking at the booklist for fall 08 and was wondering if you could give me an estimate how much you spent for books and PDA (or if a PDA is even needed)???I would love to know as much as I can, as I'm really excited and nervous at the same time!

Grrr - MCCDNP Wait list
I completely understand your frustration. I was looking at the website today and realized that they have lowered the prereqs even more for prospective students. They are now only requiring 5 classes as prereqs and everything else can be taken as a coreq while you are in the program. The coreqs include anatomy 202, microbiology (Bio 205)--Both must be taken before block 3 of the program--English 101 and 102, and Critical reading have to be taken by block 4. I'm not quite sure why they would allow someone to go all the way to block 4 of the nursing program without passing out of reading first. This just doesn't make sense. As a student that's already been on the waiting list for a year and a half I just feel like Maricopa is trying to rake in as much money as they can in enrollment and not worrying about the success of the students.

Grrr - MCCDNP Wait list
Hey Gilbert-Girl Yes, I've heard some pretty scary things about the Rio Grads. My friend just graduated nursing school last December. When she was doing her clinical rotations, as well as her preceptorship the nurses were asking what school she went to and saying telling her about the stigma with the online nurse grads from Rio. I've also seen some posts on allnurses regarding the Rio grads not finding jobs. I understand what you mean--I had my heart set on Rio, and honestly all this info could be just a rumor, but I do not want to take a chances with my education or my future career. Hope that helped.

Grrr - MCCDNP Wait list
My first choice is actually Phoenix Community College. I was going to choose Rio, but I;ve heard that their graduates are having a hard time finding jobs in the nursing field. I think PC, Estrella, and Boswell will be my top three. What about you?

Grrr - MCCDNP Wait list
I also called and was told placement wouldn't occur for spring until sometime in late October. I've been on the waiting list since July 07 and will just be excited to get accepted, so I don't have to keep logging onto the Maricopa counties website everday. It doesn't seem like updating the website with accurate information is a priority for anyone over there. But I guess we just have to wait and be patient. Hopefully we'll all be placed in this run. Let's all keep our fingers crossed. Good Luck!
