...But I just have to say:
So many of you are amazing people and nurses. The time you put in responding to posts on Allnurses really does make a difference.
BUT.
When people come here asking for advice on a situation, they are not looking for your opinion of them as a person or their behavior. You all know what threads I'm talking about.
It's one thing to point out that their behavior could potentially be dangerous to patients.
It's one thing to be honest and tell them that their future doesn't look too bright.
It's one thing to suggest they may find seeing a therapist very helpful.
It's another to tell them they are mentally ill, mock them RELENTLESSLY, or judge them. When you do this to your fellow nurses (that have just come to you for advice), you're worse than that poor, scared soul you FLAMED for thinking a drug abuser may have a bloodborne illness.
These posters are often simply desperate, scared, or just plain curious!
I know it's important to have a thick skin when you work in healthcare, and I sure as heck am not busting out the trigger-words bully†or NETY.†It's just that even in my CNA class, it was emphasized over and over that it's not our place to judge patients. Can't you afford the same courtesy to other nurses?
I'm generally a pretty quiet person, but I believe in standing up for other people. So I just had to put this out there.
I agree with the OP. Some people on here are rude and nasty. I have put up a couple of post and they told me I was making a big deal out of nothing or telling me to find a new job...but I get right back with them with a slick comment. Everyone is big and bad over the Internet with no picture.
I've read the post you're complaining about three times and I cannot figure out how it's condescending.
Really? It's the first sentence, where it is implied that the poster is too dumb to know which site she is on and is so childish as to need handholding.
And I didn't complain, I specifically said I thought it was funny.

A form just for this.........
yeah, and I think this is the sort of thing the OP was commenting about. IMO someone who posts this is the one who is all "butthurt". I guess the OP must have hit a nerve with you and some of the others on this thread.
As for the OP's comments I have to say that she was taught in school to not judge patients so shouldn't that also apply to nurses not judging each other. To the OP-the "professionals" on here love to judge patients-medicaid, "drug seekers", those horrible obese ones . If they judge patients one can not expect them to not judge their fellow nurses.
All I can say is you can't change the rude and disrespectful behavior of others. They are set in the ways and short of having an epiphany on just how rude and disrespectful they are they will never change. I say just worry about yourself and be the best person you can be. As for their comments, just consider them "water off of a duck's back" and let it go.
I think the kind of posts the OP is talking about are the ones where a few members will gang up on someone who disagrees with them, then it starts devolving to personal attacks. Or the posts that just skirt the edge of TOS violations. Or the ones where the posters are just out to do damage. And the few blatant name-callers.
That's been on the rise lately.
As mentioned, one can report posts that violate/appear to violate the TOS by using the yellow triangle button.
I think this is the kind of post that missnurse1989 doesn't like because it's condescending.I think it's funny and it doesn't bother me.

How is my post condescending? It was 100% my own opinion. Condescending would mean that I am conveying a feeling of superiority...I can say as the poster of this that I did not write to show a feeling of superiority... although, you are entitled to your own opinion... I don't agree with yours any more than you agree with mine.... interesting how things are perceived. Can't please everybody...and that's okay because it's impossible.

I think saying that people "love to judge" others is a little judgmental itself.
I do agree that some people are apt to pile on, and there are others who are quick to take offense. I happen to be an obese former nurse with psych issues who is on both disability and Medicaid, so there's lots for me to get offended about.....but do I let it get to me? Not often, because I know the diatribes are not about me personally. Once in awhile I will point out a few facts as I see them, but otherwise I let it roll off my back because I want to continue enjoying Allnurses the way I have since 2002.
