1) Discussing bodily fluids over a gourmet meal seems perfectly normal

to you.

2) You think that caffeine should be available in IV form.

3) You get an almost irresistible urge to stand and wolf your food even

in the nicest restaurants.

4) You say to yourself "great veins" when looking at complete strangers.

5) You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if you say,

"It's unusually quiet around here today"

6) You have ever had a patient look you straight in the eye and say "I

have no idea how that got stuck in there".

I can so relate to looking at strangers veins !!

You know you're a med/surg nurse if a river of runny poo reminds you to pick up brownie mix at the store on the way home.

No offense to the med/surg nurses who dont- but whine when the ER calls with pt report.

When you discharge at least half of your patients and fill the beds up in 4 hours.

And to little ER nurse, eh hem, getting an ER patient who has been there for hours, coming to your floor, and needing to go to OR within the half hour....Why not directly to OR????? Seriously, love my ER nurses...we do try to work together.

Wolfie

You joke about having a cd foley cath just to save you from going to the BR which takes up valuable charting time.

You run out of soft wrist restraints and use kerlix until some more come up to the floor from central supplies.....seen this done.:nono:

When the ER (I love you guys) loves to send you pt's at the change of shift.:nono: and they always say "It has to be now, we are slammed down here", and like we are sitting up here taking bids on how many V-Tach spurts Mr. Jones can have in the next 30 minutes.

OMG we must all work in the same hospital. We have the exact same issues!

Today we had 8 admission between 1400 and 1900. Thankfully we were well staffed. The nurse manger was going to make me send one nurse home but then all of a sudden we got news that the ER was busy so thankfully I didn't have to send anyone home.

Our ER always brings patient up and change of shift because they are "so swamped".

PACU nurses love to just "show up" with the patient saying "I decided to give you report once we got up here". Gee thanks! Same day surgery pulls that one too.

Case Managers beg for beds when they know there are not any.

And yes, why on earth do they bring patients up only to go to OR in 30 minutes? Perhaps we do all work in the same hospital.

I do like the ER nurses & case managers but truthfully I could take or leave the PACU nurses.

Hey have you ever seen an ER nurse try to thread an IV on a pump! Hallarious! I try to keep in mind that I could not do their job either.

Specializes in ACNP-BC.

How true! I'm a med-surg RN & every day this week so far I've discharged 1-2 patients as soon as my shift started & then picked up 1-2 more in addition to my other patients too! It seems to be the trend around here. I can seriously do admissions in my sleep now. :)

OMG, we must ALL work in the same hospital. I guess M/S nurses all over get dumped on the same way. But I'm so used to all of this that it's a joke, but, God love them, our patients need us all the more.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho.

I agree with all these. And yes you may truely be a med/surg nurse is you can discharge one patient and admit another and get a new surgical all in the same 30 minutes and not lose your sanity.

Yeah we all work at the same hospital! My fav is when you discharge a patient and they are not even to the elevator and your NEW admitt is sitting in front of you in a wheelchair wondering what is takeing so long to clean there room!LOL

This morning I was making my bed at home, and I was looking for the controls to raise the bed up!

I also notice people's veins now.
