Definitely the patient who has a sudden personality change when someone else shows up.
People who do NOT ever try to start their own IV. They just call the rapid team or IV team (if your facility has one). Then claim to "suck at IV starts", but will never try themselves. You will not improve if you don't try!
When you try multiple times to reach a patient about their controlled medication that they're requesting EARLY, leave multiple voicemails, and then they call back to complain "no one called me and now I'm OUT!!!!"...on the weekend answering service, knowing full well that the office isn't open on the weekend. And then they show up to the ER to complain that their PCP won't refill their meds and request the ER give them their narcotic of choice.
1). Adults who pull blankets over their heads and/or pretend to be asleep, like toddlers, thinking "You can't see me if I can't see you." I see you! And it's time for discharge papers now.
2) Adults, particularly grown women, who regress to baby talk. Please, please, please do not tell me you have to "poopie" if you're 35 years old
3) "Vomicking"

When your out of control patient suddenly is an angel when primary rounds.
What grinds your gears?
