You should know better

Published

Ok, AN, it's guilty pleasure time. What do you do that you know as a nurse you shouldn't? Chain smoke? Binge drink on the weekends? Lecture a patient on a healthy lifestyle then go home and slam down a whole mac-n-cheese pizza? Ride your kick-a** donorcycle to work? Do back flips on your trampoline while juggling swords?

Out with it!

I think you just like typing Montepulciano D'Abruzzo. Which WA wine? Hmmmm?

You're no quitter.

I LOVE typing that. My phone corrects almost every "M" word to that. So, I'll be texting my brother about Mom and it will say, "Are you driving Montepulciano D'Abruzzo to go see Dad today, or am I?"

I had Columbia Wineries Composition Red Blend: Cab Sauv, Syrah and (I think) Merlot. A bit too fruity for me, but smooth. I had no problem with it, and no hangover! All for the low, low price of 14.99.

Potty mouth. Don't floss (have been trying to get better at this one lately.) Definitely drive over the speed limit, and have mild road rage to boot. Drink 1-2x a week, but I'm too old to drink to the point of hangover, ouch. Cheese addict. Carrying some extra weight.

I'm a potty mouth, too. I will say anything, and usually try to shock. For some reason I get away with it, so far. Doesn't mesh well with my new job as a HS nurse.

Bacon. Pre-cooked packages from Costco. I buy 3-4 at a time to keep in the vegetable drawer in the fridge. Whip out 6 slices, 45 second nuke, watch TV, usually ID channel with Forensic Files marathon.

Perhaps on a related note, I'm over 50 and have never had a colonoscopy. I beg to fill out the cards just this one more year.

Diet Dr. Pepper. I drink so much when they draw my blood it fizzes.

Love bacon and love Diet Dr, Pepper.

Not truly a vice because I limit both.

Personally, I don't think foul language has a spot on a bad habits thread.

The TOS disagree with you.

I, on the other hand, absolutely agree. Sometimes a situation demands an expletive. Or three. Ever locked yourself out of your own house? That moment when you walk up to the door and realization sets in? That's an "f me" moment.

I could read this thread all day long! It makes me feel soooo much better about myself.

I appreciate having comrades-in-arms in the "You-Should Know Better" aspect of life!

It's a rare day that passes that I don't have chocolate, even if it's just a handful of choc chips. Have never smoked & not a big drinker (although a heck of a lot more since becoming a nurse - correlation?)

I will be in trouble if I ever start having to take meds. I can't remember to take pills on a daily basis; I don't think I've ever finished a rx without missing multiple doses.

I wear my contacts WAY longer than they are meant to be worn. My last visit to the optometrist was probably 3-4 yrs ago & I'm now using the last set of lenses from that yearly script.

Trying to walk more & thinking REALLY hard about exercising....oh look! Chocolate!

I don't drink or smoke. I wear a bike helmet. My vices are cheese, chocolate, pastries, and lack of exercise. I'm fat, and well aware of it.

How can this be? If you wear a bike helmet, presumably you ride a bike (and therefore exercise), right? And as far as wearing the bike helmet goes, how is that possible coming from a person named "Not_A_Hat_Person"? :D

Love cheese. I'd melt cheese on a piece of cheese.

I'm glad I'm not the only dentist avoided... Is this a common theme with nurses?

I hate going to the dentist. My teeth are really sensitive, and the cleaning process is literally agony for me. I am way overdue to go back, and I really need to. Dental hygiene is very important. Sigh.

My comments about the tos regarding my potty mouth violate the tos.

Coca cola. Ice cold. Rabbit pellet ice. I limit myself to 2 per week with occasional binging.

Booze. I don't discriminate...craft beer, wine, top shelf gin and tonic (two limes), icy cold vodka martinis with a twist. Worked for over 5 years in the WA wine industry while on a break from school and psych. Let me know when you need a Pac NW recommendation, but that said, my old wino heart belongs in Italy, and no amount of local/regional goodness will ever convince me otherwise. I rarely, if ever, drink to the point of hangover, though. I turned 40 and my morning after pain threshold decreased by negative exponents.

I exercise, but sloth is my favorite vice. I can lay in bed and read a book and snooze off and on for a full 24 hours, no problem. Especially when stressed out. A good run would be a far better coping mechanism....and I know it.

Add me to the list of dental deny-ers. I will put that off as long as humanly possible and demand pharmaceuticals when I do go. Hypersensitive teeth and I don't stay numb...plus I had a scary dentist tell me to "tough it out" while he took a wisdom tooth out in five pieces. My best friend had to come from the waiting room to hold my feet down, because come hell or high water, I was outta there.
