Apparently per the EEOC's guidelines employers (not just healthcare related) can mandate vaccination of workers. The exception is a "sincerely held religious belief" or a covered disability. Just found out this morning that a chain of for profit LTC/SNF's are rolling out a Covid vaccine mandate for all direct care staff or face indefinite unpaid administrative leave. I am a heavy supporter of vaccination and of the new COVID vaccine and in fact am due to get one in early January. But I am doing so of my own volition. My facility encouraged all workers to sign up for a vaccine and provided information sessions and it's been really effective at getting people to sign up.
Even though I would disagree with someone's choice to not vaccinate, I don't believe they should be mandated at this point.
Yes, your employer can require you to get a COVID-19 vaccine, the EEOC says

Yeah, I agree that the member is trying to generate a sense of anxiety about a bit of data that is in no way alarming or representative of some conspiracy to keep us in the dark about the vaccines.

Except that no one has provided any evidence that there is some unusual vaccine reluctance. Simply making a silly suggestion doesn't mean that the suggestion has merit.

If 40% of the people at the CDC and NIH are not taking the vaccine that is prima facia evidence of vaccine reluctance.

You don't have evidence that they "are not taking the vaccine". All you have is the percentage who have vaccinated to date. Why is that 40% of unvaccinated employees alarming to you when 60% of the general public is unvaccinated?

It isn't alarming to me it is revealing. Short of the barrel of a gun I do not believe you will ever get the rate amongst most Americans above about 60%.
70 % current PENN Medicine employees vaccinated; all must get vaccine by Sept. 1st, 2021 since freely available now in our area.. Expect other Philadelphia area health systems to require COVID vaccine, just like they have a FLU vaccine requirement.

The University of Pennsylvania Health System, the largest private employer in Philadelphia, on Wednesday announced that all employees and clinic staff will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Sept. 1.
“As an institution grounded in the science and art of healthcare, we believe it is imperative for the University of Pennsylvania Health System to take the lead in requiring employee vaccinations to protect our patients and staff and to set an example to the broader community as we work together to end the COVID-19 pandemic,” Penn said in a statement.
Effective July 1, all new hires must provide proof of vaccination or complete immunization two weeks before starting work. Those with religious or medical reasons to refuse vaccination will have to apply for an exemption, similar to the seasonal flu shot policy in place for more than a decade.
All UPHS employees and clinical staff have been offered the vaccine, and nearly 70% — more than 33,000 people — are now fully vaccinated with one of the three authorized vaccines. The mRNA vaccines, made by Pfizer and Moderna, trace their roots to research conducted at Penn. ...

Penn Medicine to require COVID-19 vaccine for all employees
The difference is that the influenza vaccine isn't under an "emergency use provision" Already, cases are being filed against employers https://thehill.com/regulation/labor/541173-first-case-against-mandatory-vaccination-filed-in-new-mexico-dention-center and you can expect class action suits to follow. If the 30% to 40% of us who do not desire the vaccine (certainly on a mandatory basis) simply quit or go to jobs that do not require it we will bring the already challenged healthcare system down in a pile of rubble. Also, this is just one more reason to leave the tyranny of states like Penn, New York and California and move to Texas and Florida. Soon many "blue states" may bring the old movie"Escape from New York" into literal life. Recently, I checked and the county where I live is growing at the number two rate in the entire nation and most of the people are coming from states like Penn, and NY.

Like they did when systems mandated the flu vaccine? When it came to leaving, a whole lot of people talked the talk, but not many actually walked the walk.
The other thing to consider is this. There are 5 major health systems in the Triad and Triangle regions of North Carolina. When the first mandated the flu vaccine, the rest quickly followed suit. I have no doubt that once the first system mandates the COVID-19 vaccination, the rest will quickly follow suit.
95% healthcare systems in SE PA have mandatory flu vaccines with approved wavier for those unable to be vaccinated -includes mask wearing entire season. Staff who left one facility, often found next one implimented Flu vaccine after changing jobs. Idea is to PROTECT the public we serve.
Lived in PA over 50 years, enjoyed great healthcare and nursing career here. Not leaving -- you can keep Florida hot weather + May bugs.. I like snow and mountains with occasional trip to the Wildwood NJ shore..

Again, it is not the same thing. The influenza vaccine is fully tested and not approved under an "emergency provision". Thus, far even the armed forces are not able to be forced to take the vaccine due to that very reason https://www.military.com/daily-news/2021/02/17/almost-one-third-of-us-troops-are-refusing-covid-vaccines-officials-say.html .

I've had a couple of responses that may have changed my mind. Perhaps the 40% are non-clinical (administrative) positions. Instead of me making an assumption that folks at these organizations are not getting vaccinated for something they know, I should have thought more about these admin employees. The video hearing didn't give any detail so that assumption was purely mine.
