so when is it wrong to stand for unfairness...

.... yesterday i had a disagreement with my teacher about how she treats certain students like their the devils child and how she lets others get away with murder: come late, eating basically a full course DURING class, have their own personal conversations during class, etc...we weren't yelling at each other though nor being disrespectful towards each other. but we're in front of the whole class. i wasnt going to say any names but she kept egging me on to say who. so i named the girls she seems to be so mesmerized by and she just stayed shut cuz she knew exactly what i was talking about. she just didnt think that i would call her out in front of everybody. i dont know why because everybody sees it.. but now today as soon as i get to school and they tell me that i have to leave - no discussion, no being able to state my case on the matter. they just call me in tell me i have 10min to get off the property and the only time, if any, i have to state my case is on tuesday and i better "choose my words wisely" - put simply they're kicking me out of school! what kinda bs is that.. :angryfire if i get kicked out cause of this.....

if i were you i would apologize and beg for forgivness , that was a huge mistake on your part, always mind your own business . dont worry about how other students get treated in comparison to you , do your work and stay focused . i bet those girls who were getting favored are in class , and your home ****** off .

i hope it works out for you , just go in the office with a "im sorry i was stressed out i didnt mean it" attitude. if you have complaints about your teacher graduate get your license and then file a complaint through the school the proper way.:nono:

While I do feel you should have taken her aside, I am sure a lot of us do not know what prompted this conversation to take publicly. You stated you did not want to name names out loud but the teacher pushed you to do so. It seems to me by her behavior she was not to happy this conversation took place and may have possibly baited you enough to act in a unprofessional manor, but two wrongs do not make a right.

While you are expected to act in a professional and nondisruptive way so is your teacher and ultimately it is her responsibility to maintain control of the classroom which she failed to do by allowing this converstation to take place before the class.

If you are thrown out of school based on this then the teacher should also have an equally or suitable punishment too as I am sure when she applied and was accepted for her job she was also told she needed to keep the class under control and to maintain a professional setting, which she failed to do.

As for humbling yourself, I myself wouldn't do it. I would explain that I was fed up with the fact of the behaviour taking place, the favortism, the lack of respect that is caused by this favortism and that yes you are at fault for not handling it professionaly and maturaly that you do not feel that one offense warrants being removed from school esp. since the teacher let the converstation go on in class by forcing you to respond to her questions. Next time you know to go through the proper grievence with your school when you have a problem.

I hope you atleast have a few witnesses who are willing to state the teacher was "egging" you on in this converstation. As for giving you ten minutes to state your case "if any" they have to allow you your say and a proper confrence on the matter. Even if not for your sake, but for your records. Unless there is a lot more to this story then whats being told.

if you are a first semester student, and the withdraw date hasnt gone by, i would take my money and leave them in the dust....because it isnt going to go well for you.....actually checking the date/time it has already gone by, i will be interested in hearing how it went.......i to agree that i wouldnt be doing any begging

I agree with others just shut your mouth and stay out of it. I see this at my CC too however I would never call an instructor out in front others. My classmate tried this once and I was shocked. Sometimes nursing school just isn't fair. On another note- I pray they don't kick you out for this.

Get on your hands and knees and start begging.

I guess my question is this: WHY was the topic brought up to start with.

Yes, you are SEEING these students "get away with murder"....but how do you know if....

1. They will pass the class

2. They will pass clinical

3. That the instructor will give those students a poor recommendation if they ever try to find a job.

You don't.

Also...don't be so judgmental...there are very valid reasons why students sometimes come in late....in my class, over 85% of us were mothers and if a child wasn't feeling well, took that morning to throw a tantrum for whatever reason...tore apart the bookbag after you had it fixed...etc...getting a kid ready late can equal being late to class.

Yup...I have brought an entire lunch bag from McDonalds and ate it during lecture...I was also quiet about it...sometimes I didn't have time to go to the grocery store and it was an alternative to not eating at all...when you have 6 hours worth of classes in front of you.

Other students came to class after working an entire night-shift at the hospital...kind of hard to eat when you get off at 7:30 a.m, have a 20 minute commute before an 8:00 class.

You need to focus on yourself and what will get YOU through.

I'm going to be judgmental. People walking in late (no matter how quiet they think they are) is disruptive. Just to give you a heads up...using your kid as an 'excuse' for being late is never going to fly in the workplace! It obviously works in your school, but it never worked in mine. Most of the women that I work with do have kids and they always manage to be on time.

Oh, and eating McDonalds during class? I understand you are starving to death, but the smell of hot fast-food is so disgusting during a lecture and it is noisy. It is a classroom, not a cafeteria.

Anyway, to the OP, I think the Professor was very much aware of what was going on during class. She obviously chose to ignore it. I think if you did have a beef with her class, it should have been addressed privately.

There is a difference between work and school...and it's a shame that someone as educated as you doesn't seem to know the difference.

Work: I go to them, beg for them for a job, and they pay me and have expectations and they don't have to keep me there.

School: If qualify for a slot in a program, according to set parameters, at any public school, legally they have to take me...and if I pay my tuition, I pay for a place in the classroom....I PAY FOR IT. What I do with that time is 100% my business.

I rework my life and family around my job because without a job, we can't pay for a place to live, food to eat, etc.

I am NOT going to rework my life around school...and never did. I graduated just fine.

If I am 15 minutes late, then so be it. If I am an hour late, so be it...if I don't feel like coming to class at all...then so be it.

It's no one's business but mine.

Did I do it every day? Nope....but on the 2 or 3 times per semester that I ran behind because I decided to put my children before school, then as far as I am concerned, the instructor and the rest of the class can deal with it.

I never complained when other students were late....b/c I figured they had their own reasons...we are all adults, it's stupid to get into a class discussion every day on why Susie or Miss Mary was late to class...I could care less!

If I need to eat something...I'm going to eat...if the college wants a policy against it, then they need to put it in the handbook. Until then, If I want to eat during class, I sure as heck will.

If someone requires so much concentration, that if someone shows up a few minutes late that it "breaks" it for the rest of the lecture...then nursing is probably not the profession for them.

School AIN'T the same as a job...not even close!!!!

Wow, it's hard to argue with that level of disregard for other people. I think I'll break out the popcorn and let someone else try.

Sorry but I agree have to agree with baby Lady on that particular subject:igtsyt:,I am not making any excuses at all for lateness or being unprofessional but sometimes being a mom can make you run late it's not an excuse it is honesty. I had a job interview 8 months ago for a hospital in NYC and the director of the department said to me how many sick calls would you say you had in your last job in a years time???:thnkg: And I answered him I said honestly I can't tell you because I have a 5 year old daughter and anything can arise and my family comes first before anything but I am more than qualified to do the job and anything else that comes with it and guess what I got the job. So it is true people have things in their lives where something comes up but you should not pay attention to anyone else just what is going on with you ,all that matters is that you are passing and moving on to the next level who cares what happens to them everyone is responsible for their own future!:nurse: People walk in late to my class all the time and I just keep reading you let the teacher handle them trust me it looks like there are getting by but they are really not their grades are suffering trust me:confused:, because if a student is late frequently or absent eats all the time instead of working hard and talks during lectures there is no way that they are straight A students unless they are working with the lord himself:sstrs:. So if you can girl just beg for forgiveness :bowingpurand mind your own buisness as long as you get your license thats what matters! Good luck as long as it's not too late!:bowingpur

Exactly my point....if another student doesn't pay attention, wants to play on the Blackberry during lecture and not take notes...I could care less...Darwin's theory will eventually take care of the problem.

My response was to a poster that said that I "couldn't do that on a job"...well, work isn't school...and to suggest they are the same is really...well, ridiculous.

My instructors never started class on time.....ever. They thought nothing of showing up 10, 15, 20 minutes late and even had the nerve to ask us to stay later....this was a daily thing with them.

Our class had over 40 students...to me, it was less disturbing to have a student that was occasionally late...go quietly to their desk...get settled...than to waltz in and stop the lecture with, "OMG! Sorry I'm late, you won't believe what happened!"...with over 40 students, someone, had something to happen, most everyday and it was very rarely the same person...there was only one student that was late every day...she also, didn't graduate.

We even had a student that showed up 45 minutes late to a two hour lecture....but she wrecked her car on the way to school and had the tow truck to bring her to class so someone else would take her home...b/c she wanted to be there.

Pretty much everyone brought food to class most every day....it was rare that I brought my meal, but other students would lay out practically a buffet of snacks at the start of every class....so I sure didn't feel guilty about bringing the occasional burger and fries....in fact, if the local fast food joint was running a special, I would sometimes pick up a few extra sandwiches and hand out to hungry classmates who didn't have time to stop at all.

if this is the norm, dear me but "school" has declined since i attended.....

Last July during orientation, our director told us: "And no, pregnancy is not an excuse."

In other words, throw your excuses, no matter how legitimate they are, out the window. Unless someone is on their death bed in my family, all else - for me, at least - revolves around NS and obeying the rules, no matter how much it inconveniences me.
